Quick shout-out to @Quiksilver & #REPREVE, who between them are currently celebrating successfully recycling 💯 MILLION bottles - into things like these rad new boardies - since the start of their programme in 2012. That's 3,500 TONNES! 🤩
Having just spent 4 days on adventures in various bodies of water all across the South of England (and the last month around the oceans in 🇪🇸 and 🇳🇴), this project seems like a no-brainer, and something I hope more companies can get on-board with ASAP. Everyone around me in the adventure community is super-attuned to the effects of pollution in the environments we value so highly, and I love seeing the individual input in aiming to leave every spot we visit cleaner than when we arrived. ♻️ Individual effort brings about awareness that can kick start business input - and the innovation and drive at this business-level is able to bring about more sizeable impact. To me this what the REPREVE programme signifies.
First up - the Quiksilver 'Highline' REPREVE boardies I'm currently rocking are awesome; as good as any boardshorts I've ever owned (and the shorter-length cut is actually way more comfortable for swimming and wakeboarding). So as far as I can tell there is absolutely no cost in terms of performance. All this from a recycled fabric that produces 1/3 less greenhouse gases than conventional polyesters, and successfully removes waste (about 10 bottles go into each pair) that could possibly end up in our oceans. Epic. 🏄🏼♂️ Quiksilver is in the process of moving all manufacture to exclusively REPREVE sourced yarns, in both their surf and snow ranges (I cannot wait to see the results with their snow apparel), and I'm definitely on-board with the initiative. On World Surf Day this year, they also donated $10 from each pair sold to the amazing team at @5gyres - whose purpose is raising awareness about developing a #plasticfree society. 🙌🏼 If you want to learn more check the link in my bio! ☝🏼
