Seed Starting Treatise, Part 1. This is how I do seed starting. It works very well for me. It's not the only way to start seeds, but this is the way I've been successful for several years. I use a soil block maker. I put my blocks in standard flats. I use Pro-Mix soilless medium. I put it into a Rubbermaid tote, wet it, and get in there up to my elbows and mix until it's evenly wet, and wet enough to hold the soil block shape. I store the medium, wet, in the tote, indefinitely. You can see that I really pack the soil blocks into a flat. For tiny seeds, I cover over the little depression made by the soil block maker. For seeds like peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant, I plant the seeds in the depression.
