I've talked a lot about physical health so far in my struggle with IBS-SIBO, but I have yet to touch on an equally important aspect, mental health. 💫 Even though society has come a long way in reducing the stigma around those living with mental health issues, I still feel that we have a ways to go. 💫 During the last 4 years, as my gastrointestinal problems kept getting worse and worse, no matter what I did to try to alleviate my symptoms, it also had a detrimental effect on my mental health status. 💫 I've already mentionned the strong gut-brain connection via the vagus nerve, however let's leave the scientific details alone and focus on the HUMAN aspect for now. 💫 Being constantly told that my pain and suffering was "all in my head," actually made me start to believe it for a while... I was the PROBLEM. My thoughts were poisoning my BODY. What am I doing WRONG? Why can't I be HAPPY like everyone else? What is wrong with ME? 💫 Unfortunately, my thoughts went unanswered for years as I began to slowly isolate myself from the world, spiraling into the dark pit of depression and anxiety. 💫 I won't go into too much detail right now, but that was a very dark chapter of my life. I did some things that I am not proud of, but I truly believe I came out a stronger person because of all the things that I went through. 💫 Luckily for me, I have a fantastic support system, family and friends, who stuck by my side and refused to give up on me. Not too long ago, I made a vow to myself that I would never, ever go back to that dark place. 💫 It hasn't been easy and it is a part of me that I have to work on each day. One thing that helps me keep my mental health in check is physical activity. Even though I haven't been able to do an actual workout in the past 1.5 months with everything going on with my SIBO, I always make sure to get in at least 1 hour of walking each day. STOP SCROLLING AND DRINK WATER Not yelling but above average volume suggesting to hydrate yourself. You may try adding all these superfoods, tinctures and foods you can’t pronounce into your diet when probably the best thing you can do is drink more good water, get more sun and sleep. Simple, but not easy. 10 big sips is one glass and you should be drinking that every hour. If your not peeing every hour you are probably dehydrated.

Happy Friday everyone! I thought I would introduce myself since I haven’t for a long time, I have many new followers, and I haven’t posted in a while (I do insta stories often though 😀). I’m Laura, my husband, three girls and I live outside of Seattle. My husband and two oldest daughters have several food intolerances. Peppy (my middle) had severe dairy, soy, and peanut allergies from the time she was a few months old. She has since grown out of her peanut allergy and her soy and dairy allergies are now intolerances. 💕 my youngest also has severe (though not immediately life threatening) dairy, soy, and nut allergies and just was diagnosed with celiac disease this summer. I have had a slough of health issues that affect my gut and also struggle with adrenal fatigue. These have led me to only be able to eat about 20 foods. I love to help others with their food restrictions, create recipes, teach baking classes, and give hope to others that most foods are possible even with food restrictions!! One of my guilty pleasures is making sweet treats for others (that I can’t eat 🤷🏻‍♀️). Other than that, I love the great outdoors, my family, and traveling (yes, with all our food restrictions). Is it a hormone, like estrogen, that isn’t able to be processed and removed from the body. These are some the reasons why your body may be putting on weight. . Do you ever feel bloated or uncomfortable after meals? If so, I have a tip for you 🤗 ➡️ Try sticking to warm, fresh foods over cold foods. This includes drinks, snacks and meals! Explanation below: ⠀ Food needs heat in order to be digested ("digestive heat" or "fire"). When you're eating cold food, it has to be heated up by your gut more than warm food (warm/cooked food is already warm and ready to be digested) 🔥 This is much more work for the digestive system, which causes it to use up a lot of its energy, and weaken over time. ⠀ NOTE - I am not saying to totally avoid cold food, especially in the hot weather! WELLNESS TOP IF THE DAY🌱⠀ Hey guys, I’m jo. Big hello to all my new friends and loyal tribe, well you know you’re awesome😘. ⠀ ⠀ This time 8 years ago I had an autoimmune condition that ruled my life. I battled chronic pain everyday, joints so inflamed I was resigned to crutches. Today i'm in remission and I'm asked a lot if i'd share the knowledge I’ve learnt in putting my autoimmune condition in remission naturally and i'm finally ready to start sharing my story ... in bite sized chunks😉. ⠀ ⠀ Tip 1 - KNOWLEDGE IS KEY. ⠀ ⠀ I was diagnosed and undoagnosed so many times I’ve lost count. Visited so many diff hospital depts I’m surprised they didn’t give me my own canteen pass😂 but the truth is, you can waste so many years searching for a label. ⠀ ⠀ Autoimmune conditions are often complex, rarely have I met someone with just one thing going on. I had some kind of spondoarthropothy (in other words shed loads of inflammation), interstitial cycstitis, IBS, candida, even a broken metatarsal... I was told all my pains couldn’t be related to my gut. Doctors looked at my symptoms in isolation. ⠀ ⠀ Have all the tests, rule things out but keep searching, reading, talking to others with similar conditions and sure enough the jigsaw will become less a pile of random pieces🤣. It takes time, don’t be hard on yourselves. Be loving, be kind. Soak up the knowledge, nothing is wasted. In a short answer, we think so. Conventional fruits and vegetables are higher in pesticides, which can be toxic to our health. Buying organic helps to reduce your exposure to these toxins. If you can't afford to only buy organic produce or selection is limited then use the Environmental Worker Group's "Dirty Dozen" to help you identify which fruits and veggies are highest in pesticides, and buy these organic. Use their "Clean Fifteen" list to determine which ones are least likely to contain harmful pesticides, and buy conventional varieties if you prefer. Buying organic is less important when you're shopping at a farmer's market. Many small farms can't afford the organic certification. When I had Matthias, my labor was long and my water had been broken for an extended period of time. Protocol called for multiple courses of IV antibiotics. A few days after delivery, I noticed a white covering on Matthias's tongue which had automatically concerned me about thrush for him (candida overgrowth in his mouth). Being new to motherhood and new to breastfeeding, it took me a lot longer to recognize that the yeast (candida overgrowth) had transferred into my milk ducts. Yeast thrives in warm areas and feeds on sugars so Breastmilk is an optimal for it. In the beginning I thought the pain was associated to "getting used to nursing". The pain became so intense with every single nursing and pumping that I was in tears every single feeding. Ridding my body of this overgrowth at that time required many, many rounds of Fluconozale, and other measures to keep me and Matthias free from anymore issues. In retrospect, I wish that I had known about the combination Probiotic and Enzyme blend that I take now, Probio5. With the enzyme blend, it fights against the yeast overgrowth in my body and simultaneously feeds the good microbes with essential Probiotics. Super quick and tasty courgetti and meatballs, these are @tescofood glutenfree beef meatballs which are 86% beef with @ocadouk organic italian passata and a little extra seasoning et viola. I'm upping the fodmaps right now but if ur low fodmap you could mix courgetti with gluten free spegetti as 65g is actually a very small amount! Apart from the great dinner 😉 today was kinda tough. After over a year of invasive testing all my hospital results show as normal and iv been discharged back to symptomatic treatment (aka my gp trying to put me back on anti depressants, anti spasmodics, pain killers, loperamide etc etc) it's great to have clear results and i am so thankful but I'm also so unhappy taking medicine and being in a constant cycle of pain, sickness and anxiety without a diagnosis - just crushing. Iv made the kindest decision I can for myself which is no more hospital waiting rooms, no more medicine with all its side affects and I will find a holistic way to heal myself. For those of you who know me…I love a holiday in Portugal and I ESPECIALLY love their signature treat, the pastel de nata! A lot of these bad boys have gone down this summer. Past self - I don’t think I can do this. 😣 Present self - Watch me fucking do this. 👊🏼 . So many years I let fear of failure, fear of that others would think, and self-doubt control what actions I took. Or more importantly, what actions I decided not to take. . What a racket living that way. There’s such a freeing feeling when you decide to stop letting all of that 💩 take up so much space in your life. . You take more action. You worry less. You have more fun. You give less shits about things that dont matter. You feel good and in turn nicer to other humans. . You start building the life you want. Because you realize you have 1 life. It doesn’t matter if you try and fail. It matters if you had the guts to take the action to begin with. You’ll still have moments where self-doubt creeps in, but they’ll become fewer and it’ll become second nature to just start DOING. . Stop stopping yourself.
