Bleh. Stuck on the treadmill this morning. The roads are way too icy to be on and I wanted to get a tempo in. 1 mile warm up 2x 9 minute sets broken into 3 minute intervals 3 min recovery between each 1x6 min set broken into 2 minute intervals. It's been a WHILE since I've hurt that bad for speed. I worked for it this morning and it felt so good to finally push myself. Each 9 min set started around 7:30s and ended in 6:40s. The 6 min set I did faster for a quick serge. 😱 still not my usual fast serge pace but I'm coming back! #imcomingback #comebackkid

Early morning treadmill miles. Felt ok running (am I finally getting the hang of this treadmill thing?!), it was the getting up early that was the struggle today. It’s #tbt #throwbackthursday time. Last March at the 2017 #unitednychalf . 📆 (i just noticed i wore the same shirt to the gym last night - haha) . First I have no idea why I have one glove on and one off when there is still over a mile left in the race! This pic was taken just before we went into the Battery Tunnel to run a whole mile in the tunnel. After being in the sun on the West side highway on a cold day, I wasn’t a fan of this dark tunnel. 😡 . Thankfully they have changed the course and done away with the tunnel! Happy #tempothursday everyone! Did you know that there are many different types of tempo runs? One type is called the Lactate Threshold run. Lactate threshold is defined as the intensity of exercise at which lactate begins to accumulate in the blood at a faster rate than it can be removed. You should be running these at the pace you would run in a 1 hour race. For many, this could be from lightly slower than your 10k pace to slightly faster than your half marathon pace. These tempo runs should be run between 15 and 35 minutes, not including your warm up and cool down. If you are new to these tempo runs, you can start by running intervals, like 4x5 minutes with 2 minute jog. Sound the PB Klaxon....... for Patrik Jochnick at the Naples Half Marathon in Florida last weekend with an incredible 1h 23. I say incredible simply because he briefed us to get him under 1h 30 with a previous best of 1h 36 - so that's just the 13 minute improvement then!!!. With very strong discipline to our plan, which was a magical mixture of speed and tempo sessions (as well as recovery runs and slow long runs), and a lot of courage on the day, Patrik showed he was somewhat understating his own potential! Now, the real work begins as Patrik is setting himself a new milestone for the Paris Half marathon in March, watch this space.......

Never underestimate the power of something based on its appearance. When I received the equipment for the new workouts I’m doing I lifted this little band out of the box and thought it looked like it should be used as a rubber band or like a headband my Girls would wear. I truthfully didn’t even know if it would fit around my legs........ And today, this little blue loop of resistance had me cussing and sweating! Holy shmoly! The burn was strong today! I counted to 3 while holding poses with this little band of resistance more times than I like to think about and my arms are complete jello from a move called skull crushers....but I like feeling that burn knowing that I made my body stronger!
