SELF CARE TIPS, โ€˜cause you gotta take care of your kidneys. Kidneys are my favorite organ and highly underrated! The kidneys are truly the backbone of your household... if your kidneys ainโ€™t happy, ainโ€™t NOBODY happy. They produce the hormones that keep the rest of your organs doing the right thing. Signs of unhappy kidneys can include swelling in your feet and ankles, a puffy face when you wake up, dry and itchy skin, and general tiredness. Always consult your doctor if you feel your kidneys might not be functioning at their best, but here are some tips to keep them happy. In addition to STAYING HYDRATED... . . . 1- watch your salt intake! High blood pressure is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease. Season your food with spices instead of extra salt. Keep your intake under 2,300mg a day (which is a teaspoon! Yikes.) 2. Quit smoking. Obviously thatโ€™s an unhealthy habit, we all know that. But it hurts your kidneys two-fold since it can cause higher blood pressure and reduce oxygen to the kidneys. 3. Watch the vitamins youโ€™re taking. A lot of over the counter supplements have more than your daily intake requirement which means youโ€™re just paying for your kidneys to do extra work. Make sure youโ€™re not taking too much and causing them to work harder than they have to. 4. Watch that naproxen and ibuprofen - most people know that it can damage your liver, but it also can cause a lot of harm to your kidneys. Donโ€™t take over the recommended dose!
