My top 5 ways to keep your kids (and yourself) healthy: 1. Read labels 🥝🍎: choose healthy foods and snacks. Skip the fruit juices, they are full of sugar! Sugar weakens the immune system so the body can’t fight off germs, is bad for teeth and has no nutritional benefits. It is hard for me sometimes to incorporate a variety of healthy foods, because my son can be picky! I have to get creative with incorporating veggies and fruits as much as possible. I use a food chopper often and chop up tons of broccoli and carrots and hide them in everything! 🙌 2. Sunshine! ☀️Get out in the sun as much as possible. They can soak up vitamin D, get fresh air and this will build up their immune system. This can be hard in the winter depending on where you live. We get out as much as possible when it’s above freezing temps and if the sun is out. Even if it’s just for 15 minutes, we bundle up and head out. This helps improve our mood and clear our heads so much too! 3. Multivitamin: 💊unless your kids eat perfectly every day, with 💯 organic food, completely sugar free, and get all servings of fruits and veggies, then vitamin supplementation is highly beneficial to their health! It helps fill in the missing gaps in their diets, especially vitamin C this time of year with sicknesses rampant, their immune systems can take that extra boost! 4. . 😎 Sleeping is “in” . Okay, this method for improving insulin sensitivity is more appealing than exercise — but I personally find it just as hard to practice. It’s sleep. . There’s a sleep revolution in the air and chances are, you’ve already heard that our bodies heal themselves while we sleep. . 😴 5 hours is not enough . It probably won’t come as a surprise then, to learn that sleep directly affects insulin resistance. Sleep actually has an almost immediate effect on how well your body responds to insulin. . Studies (though admittedly with small sample sizes, often looking at about 10 people at a time) show that it takes just one night of restricted sleep for your body to become less sensitive to insulin. Sleep restriction often means 4-5 hours of sleep a night in these studies. Scarily, this wasn’t unusual for me just a few years ago! . While the family has my veggies & lentils #spaghettibolognese pasta for dinner, I am having my very own creation of tabouli 😬this is my craving today! In this pregnancy, the look, smell and thought of pasta makes me sick. I crave more for salads such as salad sandwiches, burgers, salads such as tabouli. However due to my iron levels I added some pistachio and beans. I couldn't be bothered to cook anymore today so unfortunately quinoa was out of the option for today. Plus it's been so hot today so i decided not to cook anymore hot meals. I need to make it a habit to think of my needs as well... I tend to make sure I do everything for my family before I look after myself. It's so hard to change that mentality! Us mums are on over drive and are such selfless beings. Our family is our priority always. Anyways besides a walk this morning, this is another way I chose to look after me... eating this amazing salad! Recipe: 1 finely diced onion 4 Roma tomatoes diced 1 cup finely chopped fresh parsley 3 cups finely chopped fresh kale 1 mini cucumber finely chopped 2 tablespoon sesame seeds (black ones, @thesourcespringfield have these😊) 1/2 cup pistachio nuts @thesourcespringfield have these too 1 tin of beans (chick peas or butter beans or cannelloni beans) 1/2 a lemon squeezed Salt and pepper (up to u how much of it) 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar Optional to add Apple cider vinegar as well. It helps to break down the protein in your tummy. I seem to be having issues in breaking down my protein as well. Our 2018 resolution is to eat more balanced meals. Yes we are still going to enjoy having hotcakes, burgers and that peanut butter fudge brownie but we are also going to enjoy smoothie bowls and fresh fruit. We made this smoothie bowl with @wholeearthau sweeteners. A great start to any day! ~ ~ ~ ~ Smoothie Bowl 1/2 frozen banana a handful of frozen raspberries 2 sachets of Whole Earth Sweeteners 250ml of coconut or almond milk Add all the above ingredients into a blender and mix. Pour into a bowl and add a range of nuts, fresh fruits etc on top. Basing your meals around plant and plant protein has so many benefits. . Peas and edamame pasta for instance are low in fat but high in fibre, protein and micronutrients. . They contain anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Being high in fibre they can help control blood sugar levels as fibre slows down digestion of sugars, as does protein. . And of course fibre helps flush out toxins by improving peristalsis from increased bulk in the bowel. . Fibre helps you get a flat stomach, if you eat it from fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and wholegrains. . Fibre from too many refined carbohydrates won’t though - so choose your fibre carefully. . Oh and adding a healthy fat to your plant based meal (like olives and feta in this case) will help you absorb the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K - peas contain all but D). to set rules or not to set rules for yourself? the answer isn’t straightforward. . on one hand, setting rules helps to reduce decision fatigue (i.e. you don’t have to spend mental energy deciding something, which can be draining and anxiety-inducing). it also helps you to outline your values and stick to them (rather than succumbing to peer pressure — whether real or imagined — if you are particularly susceptible to this). . on the other hand, setting rules can be hurtful to our mental health if it means they hold us back, or that we experience fear about breaking them. . the key is to think about whether the rules reflect who you ultimately want to be, and whether they reduce stress or cause more stress in your life. . any rules (or boundaries, if you prefer this word for some circumstances) you set in your life should protect your values and well-being, and promote physical and mental health. BUT - always always stay open to the idea that you might change your mind about them someday. as we grow and flow through life, some things might change for us, and that’s okay. pay attention, adjust, and go forth with love and radical acceptance.

One of my job requirements is FILLING MY CUP FIRST. This isn’t just with fitness... Now, that name is HORRID, but truly everyone (coach or NOT) needs Personal Development in their life. I was told I needed to read (or listen) to Personal Development for at least 10 minutes a day. I never questioned it... I though that’s odd but okay I’ll do it. THIS is when my life changed for the better. THIS is when I became the best version of myself. — Taking care of your mind is the FIRST and MOST important step in your journey of LIFE. Not just in fitness... Not just in your job... Not just in your relationships... BUT IN LIFE. If you don’t believe in you, how can you expect anyone else to believe in you? If you don’t LOVE you, how can you expect anyone else to love you? God designed everyone with special talents and gifts. YOU have to believe that, and sometimes we all need a little push. Personal Development is that push.
