Ill admit I used to be on the #screwthescale bandwagon. But since I started my baby weight loss journey and following a new nutrition program, I’ve been weighing myself daily. For some that might seem crazy. I thought it was when I started and was very skeptical of the idea. But I’m converted! . When you weigh yourself randomly or weekly or monthly or whatever, you don’t get the whole picture. Maybe you were PMSing that day, or constipated, or didn’t drink enough water or didn’t get enough sleep. Your weight can fluctuate so much from water retention and poor digestion and poor sleep and the list goes on! . I got back from 11 days on vacation and when I weighed myself yesterday morning, I was up 4lbs from when we left. I expected it. By weighing myself everyday, I know how my body reacts to having alcohol and sugar and eating more carbs. But I didn’t panic or get upset at the number on the scale. It’s a piece of information. That’s all. . Since Monday evening, I’ve been on point with my nutrition and back to my workouts and drinking tons of water, and this morning I’m down 2lbs from yesterday! . That 4 lb weight gain wasn’t 4 lbs of fat. It was mostly water retention and the effects of shy traveling bowel syndrome 😂 . Weighing myself everyday has given me so much knowledge and insight into my body and what works for me! The scale can be your friend if you approach it the right way. . Working out on vacation and maintaining the 80/20 lifestyle was NEVER something I wanted to do or could do for that matter. Let’s talk about MEALTIME. My attitude at meal times used to always be determined by if I was being “good” or “bad.” When I was being “good,” my foods were bland and I was usually dreaming of a cheeseburger an hour later, but I had some weird satisfaction that I followed my diet plan. When I was being “bad,” it all tasted yummy but an hour later I still felt way too stuffed, and I had the guilt of messing up in my diet that day. Looking back, both routes were miserable! . . Flash forward, I (GASP) now ENJOY mealtime! I actually look forward to eating because my snacks and meals taste delicious and make me feel great. And the experience itself is 👏🏻☺️! . . A few things that helped to shift my perspective were: * I started to realize it’s okay to eat all foods! Without the labels bad or good, they lose their power and pull. They're just food! * I experimented to find what whole foods taste good and make me feel good, and also what cooking methods I gravitated towards. * I eat slowly, taste my food, enjoy the experience, and listen to my body’s cues when it’s telling me it’s still hungry or that it’s full! . . YAY for nourishment! Can you relate to this?! 🙋🏻 Any wins in ditching those bad/good labels?!

Took a little (unintentional) break from posting these past couple of days as we’ve dealt with an electricity issue at our house. We’re going on day 4 of no electricity but thankfully should be getting it fixed today. While it’s been a huge headache we’re so lucky we caught the problem in time otherwise we would have been dealing with much bigger issues. We’re also so thankful for family and friends that have given us a place to stay, fed us and offered to help. 🙏🏻 . I’m looking forward to getting back in the kitchen but have also realized how happy I am not to be bound by any “food rules” or restrictions while dealing with all this. To be honest, I’ve barely eaten a vegetable the past few days and have mostly survived off a steady diet of carbs and wine. And that’s okay. I recognize that this is only temporary and being stressed about food would have just made this whole situation more difficult. 🥐 . Life is too short to be worried about food all of the time. You don’t need to lose another 10 lbs, fit into a certain size, or have a 6 pack in order to achieve your dreams. . breakfast today is chia pudding !! i’ve been going back to it lately bc it’s sooo easy! (& yes i promise there’s actually chia pudding under all the toppings🤩) so i didn’t even measure bc i’ve made it so many times but i just soaked chia seeds & almond milk overnight (sweetened w/ maple syrup) & topped it all with some vanilla almond agave granola, fresh blueberries & raspberries, & a slice of @turnipyourlife pb cake!! LEAKY GUT What the hell is it? . Leaky gut (or intestinal hyperpermeability) was one of my biggest hurdles while going through Lyme treatment and even before starting treatment. I was at a point where the majority of foods I’d eat would cause a reaction, even the healthy ones. It started slow and because left untreated, became a lot worse. Just getting a little tired after a meal turned into not being able to make it through a meal without feeling like I was in a daze, with a horrible headache, or having to to immediately lay down because I felt so exhausted. . Countless times Alex and I would try to enjoy an evening out, but I couldn’t keep myself upright through the meal. So we’d grab the check a few minutes after getting our food, pack up some boxes, and head home. . So much anxiety started to build around food because I didn’t know how sick I’d feel after I ate (pure exhaustion, horrible headaches, brain fog, dizzy). . This is the first time I’ve really dug into this subject. But I want to share the importance of gut health and how large of a role it plays in how you feel. You don’t have to go through something like Lyme or be on antibiotics for a long period of time to be dealing with Leaky Gut. However, both of those can be big contributing factors. . Have extra or almost-going-bad veggies?? Make foil dinners! Meat (or not), fresh veggies, some butter and whatever spices you want to add - today I did hamburger seasoning, chili powder, red pepper flakes, and one without spice. We used to make these on our family camping trips - had to label them by name because my sister @lauren16k and I basically ate just meat & potatoes 😂 now we’re all grown up but still loving foil dinners, and these days they’re loaded with veggies- some from our own garden! What a bowl! Ever since I started my rotation at the diabetes wellness center I’ve been guilty of counting carbohydrates.. which really, is all just about healthy eating! Today’s bfast 👉🏼 34 grams of carb! With 2 oz of protein 👅 . Today is the LAST day of my dietetic internship! It’s so bitter sweet 🤗 But I cannot wait to sleep in tomorrow & make a nice big bfast in the morning! Can it be 3pm already?!

I know, I know... really tragic view and gross day to be working out, right? And terrible that the people all have a common interest, too... just kidding. Obviously. . . I know I've been talking a lot about @fit_4_mom recently, but that is because it really has become a major component of my week. It isn't just the workouts (which are great and scalable to my needs) or the fact that I can involve Emmie in my workouts (setting that healthy example early PLUS extra hands to help!). . . Fit4Mom is actually a community. We talk about what we are going through, help each other out (hello, @hollyvandalsen and Max watching Emmie during my MRI), we have fun, we keep each other sane. Because motherhood is amazing and beautiful and astonishing, but it is also messy, frustrating, isolating, and lonely at times. And it really does take a village. . . I never realized how good my body actually could feel. I have a to do list a mile long. Responsibilities that are piling up. My summer days are fleeting and I feel like I’m playing catch up. BUT I have a routine that makes my insides feel so good that I can’t help but be thankful. Because when the days get cuuhhraaaazy, I’m blessed to feel healthy. Healthy to me affects your vibrancy, your energy, and how you talk. I for one want those things to soar because it doesn’t just affect me>>>it greatly affects those I love. Good morning. I am just finishing up my shake then I have some chores to get out of the way and I will be heading to the hospital to sit with a very sick friend. I’m not sure if I’ll get my workout in today but with Liift 4 you have 3 rest days and if I don’t get it in I’ll count today as a rest day and workout tomorrow instead of today. Packing a lunch and dinner to take with me so I can at the very least stay on my eating schedule. Good morning! Today is considered a rest day for my program I am currently doing, but I was still up and got a little movement in before work. Rest days are so important for recovery, but I know my body and things like a nice walk on rest days do me some good!

Here’s the reality of not really running in 9 months (I am actually losing my balance in the photo because my legs felt like jello). —— Sadly, this run was only 2 miles and was more mental than physical while I build back up my running game. So tonight I discovered a new favourite exercise for the lower 🍑😍 Considering all my life my legs have had some sort of definition, my ass has ALWAYS been either a flat ass pancake OR has been the hardest, slowest bloody thing to grow due to muscle imbalances. Tonight on the leg press I decided to use my mini booty band around my knees and place my feet so that my toes were just over the board where you place your feet. Slowly pushing through your heels, push til your legs are 3/4 of the way straight then bend your knees back down to start position so your hips and knees are just past 90 degrees bent. Girllll the burn maintains itself through the entire movement so much that I used less than half the weight I could normally push. Grow that booty girl. 🍑😘
