“Kineserbyen”/Den Gule By (1909). The Yellow Village (or Chinese Town) was built for the emergency staff of the national rails, DSB. The rescue teams could rapidly be gathered and sent to fix disturbances. Danish Architecture Legends, seen from Dybbølsbro. Front: Functionalist break-through complex The White Meat City (1934 - no architects, but a group of them - they were functionalist after all!). Behind the red historicist brick building, “Frk. Engelhardts Pigeskole”, now Rysensteens Gymnasium (1895, architect Georg Ebbe Wineken Møller, 1840-1897), are the towers of another historicist styled building, Copenhagen Central Station (1911, architect Heinrich Wenck). The white Panoptikon-building ( Alex Poulsen and Mogens Jacobsen 1952). Sky scraping SAS Hotel, now Radisson Collection Hotel (left, architect Arne Jacobsen, 1960). Nivå Station (#trainstationhistory about 1897). Architect Heinrich Wenck (1851-1936). The national romantic styled station is one out of 14 stations at Kystbanen railroad. It was built for the need for transport of bricks from Nivå Teglværk. Klampenborg Station. Train Station History: 1863. Built as terminal station of Klampenborgbanen. Designed by architect Vilhelm Carl Heinrich Wolff (1833-1893), later enlarged by Heinrich Henry Emil Charles Wenck (1851-1936). The design is unique in Denmark, made in sort of classicist Swiss style, which suits the unique surroundings. It is one of only few stations built mostly for people, not goods. The area for centuries been a very popular picnic place for copenhageners. A report Politivennen from 1799 about the road - Strandvejen - from Copenhagen to Klampenborg, is typical for the first half of the 1900th century, and explains why the railroad came as a blessing: “...it's almost impossible even in midsummer to pass the road from Slukefter to the paper mill without the risk of breaking the throat and legs on the stretch from Charlottenlund to Skovshoved, where they have increased the difficulty by expanding a fence by the road in Skovshoved, the village road itself is rather a bog than a fishing village. And again between Tårbæk and the paper mill where there is only two steps distance between the deepest holes. Because of that, you only take this road in cases of emergency. It is almost impossible to hire a truck driver to take that road, because they are afraid ruining the horses or the carriage. Not to mention some places, for example at Emilia's Source where it is so dangerous. Store Merløse Station (1901), One of the stations on Tølløsebanen between Tølløse and Høng (1901). Slagelse-Høng was opened 1898. The line is one track only, but at this station, there is a double track, so trains can pass each others. Like the rest of the remaining 12 stations on the line, it was designed by architect Heinrich Wenck. Vipperød Station, 1906. Architect: Heinrich Wenck, the “grand old man” of Danish railroad stations. He designed most of the stations in Denmark between 1894 and 1921, including Copenhagen Central Station. Vipperød is a station on the Kalundborg-line (“North Western”) between Copenhagen and Kalundborg (1874). It is one of the smaller stations in Denmark, with about 400 users every day.
