So recently I went to the markets. There was a couple selling wooden toys, I told them that I liked their toys and they were delightful. I asked if they both made them, the lady replied that yes, he did the woodwork and she painted them. I complemented the toys again and asked if they were on Etsy. She said yes, and they often couldn’t keep up with demand as they sold as fast as they could make them. Then she said, some people say it’s a business but it’s just a hobby. She smiled and I smiled and kept browsing the market stalls. The reason the lady said it was just a hobby was a person can sell up to $75,000 worth of things on Etsy tax free if it’s considered a hobby. If it’s an Etsy business you need to pay GST and run it as a business. I also sell things on Etsy as a hobby but have no where near this couples estimated turn over. Anyone else have an Etsy hobby or business? It’s best to google some legitimate legal websites and find out the ins and outs. There really is hundreds of ways to make money.
