Wherever you are in the world, be sure to celebrate with colours, laughter and love 💕!
#TBT to Holi in Mathura and Vrindavan! Such crazy 3 days! It took me 1 week to get the colour off my skin. The whole experience was so worth it though. If you are getting ready for Holi 2019 be prepared to swallow a lot of powders 😜
What is the Holi Festival?
Holi s a Hindu festival that marks the arrival of spring. It usually takes place over two days, and is a celebration of fertility, colour, and love, as well as the triumph of good versus evil. When is it celebrated? The timing of Holi is synchronised with the moon, which means that the dates of each celebration varies year to year. This year it took place on the 2nd of March.
About women safety at Holi Events:
I had previously read in the Internet that men might be a little to touchy on us women…. I personally did not have that experience in Vrindavan and Mathura, however I was bodyguarded by two guys. So that might have been the difference. If someone still crossed the line, I never felt intimidated to scream/ yell at him ;) Always raise your voice and make other people aware of the situation. They usually come and help you out!
Holi in Vrindavan and Mathura
From my experience, you can travel to Vrindavan and Mathura solo to celebrate the Holi Festival. There are a looot of foreigners and a lot of Couchsurfing groups that meet up on these 3 days (great way to meet friends and future travel buddies ;) ). I would recommend for you to stick with the group since it is much more fun and also much more safe. Women/ Men that look foreign get the most attention and it sometimes can get overwhelming. The only advice for that is to be mentally prepared for it and schedule enough breaks in between. Always bring enough water with you too.
I think celebrating Holi once in your life is a must and it is lots of crazy fun.
