Day 14: Pick a Special Project! Ok, I’m trying to make it sound exciting, but it probably won’t be. 😬 When I say “special project” I mean pick something to do today that you have been putting off. I have a mental list of all these little jobs, part of which involves taking babies to the store to buy wood glue, and it’s just NOT something I really want to do but it has to be done. Last week I finally got around to cleaning out the empty aquarium on my counter that was full of water but no fish (poor Peter Parker died & a few days later his buddy, Flyer, joined); the water was freshly cleaned & there was a new filter, so I never dumped it out thinking maybe we would splurge & get another fish for 14 cents, but we never did. That was before Halloween & I finally got around to cleaning it out, scrubbing the gravel & putting it away in case we ever decide to be 🐠 owners again. I had been looking at that little tank for weeks & even though it wasn’t a difficult undertaking whatsoever, it was just one of those tedious jobs I kept putting off. I guess I held off so long because it wasn’t hurting anyone to have it there; the water was freshly changed before the fish died, it didn’t smell or have algae growing...it was benign. That’s the thing with clutter a lot of times: we let things we don’t need anymore just sit there dormant on a counter/drawer/shelf/closet because they aren’t bothering us. Then, before we know it, that part of the counter becomes the “pile it there & figure it out later” area, then a pipe breaks and floods your home & you need to pile more stuff there until you can figure out where else to store it all while the reno gets done, then you just become a slave to this pile that you’ve accumulated that just keeps getting bigger & that you have no real home for & have to keep moving from place to place! Take the steps to complete a long put-off task today. Whether it’s moving the junk off that chair so you can take photos of it to sell, or gluing a leg back onto your son’s little chair that broke when he jumped while dancing to “The Greatest Showman” (random examples) follow through to the end & when it’s done you’ll feel like a weight has been lifted!
