:: Postpartum realness :: Vulnerability. Extreme raw feelings. Excruciating pain in my entire body. My wrists throb from holding her head up while breast-feeding, my lower back from the pressure of labor and holding her in my body for 9 months. My C-section scar aches when I cough. Still bleeding on and off. Ear infection still — week 3 — can’t hear fully out of my right ear. Milk ducts clogged this week, fever of 102, trembling, shaking, freezing cold. Nevermind breastfeeding multiple times a day + my nipples feeling so sore it’s as if she’s using shards glass on her gums to suck. I burst into gut wrenching tears tonight when she latched on + my ibuprofen wore off. Nevermind sleep deprivation, awake multiple times all night log to feed her + get her back to bed for an hour. Nevermind my other two boys begging me to play but I’m in bed or nursing or crying. Nevermind my team of incredible humans who love me, but can’t fix this. Nevermind this will all pass in such a short amount of time and I’ll never remember the pain... so here i write it for all the mamas in the post-birth vortex. Throwing it back today to some of the best “CHEEZY” fries I’ve ever made...parsley russet AND sweet potato fries and dairy free cheese sauce (also amazing for MAC AND CHEESE!) Seasoned the potatoes with @primalpalate seasoning and fresh parsley. Baked for about 25 mins at 450 flipping halfway. Reposting sauce recipe below. Happy Friday loves. Getting some work done after a good spin class this morning then spending the afternoon and evening with my mom! Any good plans this weekend? • • • SAUCE: 4 cups of water (or broth), 2 medium sized Yukon gold potatoes peeled and diced, 2 medium carrots washed and diced, 1/2 chopped onion, 1/2 cup raw cashews, 1/4 cup whole fat coconut milk or cream, Juice from half of a lemon, 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast, 1/2 teaspoon salt (or more to taste), 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 cup fresh dill (or any herb). Directions: In a large pot boil about 4 cups of water (or broth if you prefer). Boil the veggies in the water for about 10-15 mins until soft. Save 3/4 cup of the water from veggies once they are done. Remove veggies and place in a blender with the rest of ingredients and the water. I’m fine. make them and you’ll be fine too. ingredients: •crust: -1 cup @bobsredmill super-fine almond flour (from whole almonds) -1 cup oats -1/4 cup coconut sugar -3-4 tbsp coconut oil -1/2 tsp ground cinnamon -1/4 tsp salt •filling: -2 cup chopped, raw rhubarb -1 cup strawberries -1 cup stewed apples (bring 1 cup raw, chopped apples and 1 tbsp lemon juice to a simmer in a saucepan for 10-15 minutes until apples are broken down.) -1 tbsp lemon juice -1/4 tsp ground ginger -1 1/2 tbsp coconut sugar •crumb topping (I didn’t measure this but it was a mixture of @bobsredmill gluten free 1-to-1 flour, baking powder, oats, walnuts, coconut oil, maple syrup, and pink salt. just use reasonable amounts of each ingredient until the dough forms a crumble when mixed.) #yolo directions: -line a 9in square pan with parchment paper and coat with coconut oil. -for crust: add almond flour and oats into a blender and blitz until a flour forms. add remaining crust ingredients into blender and then pour into the square pan. press dough down evenly. for the filling: add filling ingredients into a large bowl and mix together. pour on top of the crust. for the crumble: directions shown above. once ready, pour crumble on top of crust and filling. bake at 350F for about 40-45 minutes or until crumble is golden brown. let set for 10-20 minutes. and then? devour the ish out of them. happy saturday bbs ✌🏼

Getting better at cooking savory meals but I still can't cook straight up hunks of meat (chicken breast 👀) in a pan 😂 Luckily, pan frying scallops with @chosenfoods avocado oil takes 3 minutes and you can't really mess up the taste of buttery scallops 😋🍮 Served these @misomaster white miso glazed scallops on top a bed of creamy mushroom cauli-risotto, half an 🥑 with bagel seasoning, and a few sprigs of fresh thyme 🌿 For the risotto (inspired by @healthyhabits.byjess), I sautéed 1 garlic clove + 1/4 onion in avo oil, then add @woodstockfoods mixed mushrooms, cauliflower rice medley, and some @ripplefoods. Cook till slightly softened and add a splash of coconut aminos, plus a handful of @organicgirl spinach. Once spinach wilts, stir in 1/4 cup @traderjoes shredded mozzarella 🍛

☀️ What’s on your #summerbucketlist? My tip of the day yesterday on the stories was to make a bucket list for the summer of all the fun things you want to do. Every year I have all these summer ideas with #babyzand, I blink, summer is over, and we haven’t done anything other than our regular routine. So this year I’ve made a fun list to remind me to head to the beach, read a specially picked stack of books, finally legally change my name, cook 2 new recipes a week from my collection of cookbooks, and so much more. My oats pancakes. Simple but I love them! Sorry I don’t have measures but I just put oats in a food processor and cover them with water and let it rest a bit, then add a little piece of banana and blend. Cook the pancakes and top them with whatever you like. Chocolate, banana, maple, tahini. I used tahini inside mine and top them with banana. Tonight’s on-the-fly dinner is Indian-inspired comfort food with sprouted lentils and basmati rice. I sautéed onions, added rice, vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, finely grated ginger, turmeric, tempered cumin seeds, asafetida and garlic, sprouted lentils, and finished with a splash of fresh lemon 🍋 juice. Simmer and add more broth or water as needed. Garnish with pistachios and serve with naan.
