How to be an Action Hero! Last post I said turn outcome goals into action. Now we need a plan.
Let me break an outcome goal into a behavior goal...
Let's take the notion of "Eating Healthier" Sounds great right? To eat healthier you could ✔️shop for fresh foods✔️schedule your shopping✔️food prep✔️menu plan✔️develop a shopping list of the healthy foods✔️
️Break “shopping for fresh foods” down further. The Plan: ✔️Every Tuesday and Thursday at 4 PM, on your way home from work, U will stop at Store X and pick up what U need✔️U will put this appointment in your calendar and set reminders✔️U will shop with a list that a coach (that's ME 😃) helped U develop.
Now you have arrived at some actions that you can do almost right away. And unlike outcomes, which can’t be controlled, these actions are almost completely within your control.
️Ideal behavior goals are ✔️clear✔️simple✔️straightforward✔️specific✔️concrete✔️do-able ✔️realistic✔️relatively easy✔️linked to the outcome you want
️To reach new outcomes you need new skills. If there’s something you want to do, and haven’t done it, you haven’t developed the skills you need. (Yet.) And this could be due to picking an unobtainable goal or just lack of knowing and focus on what you REALLY wanted in the first place and the steps it would take to actually get you there.
️Lastly have an addition approach. Tell me all things I can't have or eat or do and them's fightin' words. 👊💥
Rather let's focus on the DO's. Addition mindset pulls you toward something desirable (and quietly away from something you want to avoid). They focus on feeling good. About doing good for ourselves.
Addition goals can be things like: ✔️Eat more colorful fruits & veggies✔️Prepare healthy foods in advance so they're on hand✔️Drink a glass of water with each meal✔️slow down eating; aim for at least 15 minutes per meal. They tell you what to start doing, keep doing, and/or try to do more of.
