Workers Housing in Silvassa (ongoing project)
10 row houses, each measuring 75 sqm provide a home for 4 factory workers - all male, and a majority of whom who come to the area as seasonal migrant workers.
Each house is designed as a long and narrow parallel unit that uses a split-level configuration and varying ceiling heights to allow for a mezzanine (for sleeping), and other small spaces for various different activities (cooking, eating, sitting, etc). Designed keeping climate in mind, sloping roofs and recessed living areas provide the necessary buffers for living in a hot and humid environment.
In the first phase, 10 such units will be built on a narrow plot on the same site as the factory, with plans for more housing in a later second phase.
