'Rama', they called her. A young female who was rescued from the forest, during the monsoons by the rangers when she was a baby.
She was separated somehow from her Herd and was found later by the forest rangers, wounded in a ditch. They speculated she must have slipped through the slushy mud and landed up in the ditch. Unable to help her come out, the herd must have moved forward, relinquishing on her.
But Rama was a brave heart because she survived. She was later handed over to the authorities of Periyar wildlife sanctuary. Here she was trained and taken care of. And while she was helping me with my elephant shower ritual, I realized she was extremely fond of the scrubs around her ears.
That's when this shot was captured.
