This is the first time I’m going to write about an album that I don’t particularly like that much. NOT saying that I hate it but I generally only post things I LOVE. Why post it then? Well, I consider this debut to be one of the more important ones, both for music as a whole but also for me personally & today it’s turning 25! 👶🌼
So what’s my issue with this album? Perhaps it’s the fact that it has not aged as well as their others in my opinion. It very much sounds like it’s time which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but in this case, well… There are other bands & albums that I prefer to listen to before I’d revisit “Pablo Honey” if I wanted to hear this kind of 90’s alternative/indie rock. With that said there are still some truly great songs that give you a hint of what’s about to come. For example I find it impossible not to enjoy “Anyone Can Play Guitar”, “Blow Out”, “Ripcord” & “How Do You?”.
But maybe I just don’t enjoy “Pablo Honey” that much because I know it’s Radiohead. Would I like it more if it was some other band that I wasn’t this obsessed with? A band that I don’t associate with a very particular sound? A band that I don’t have humongous expectations from? Maybe… Maybe not. It’s impossible to tell. But without “Pablo Honey” Radiohead would probably never have become as huge as they are now. “Creep” is a song that almost everyone knows, that everyone can comfortably sing at a karaoke bar no matter how drunk they are. And even though the hardcore fans give this track a hard time I love it simply because it has broadened their fan base. It’s a great introduction to one of the greatest bands of all time. 💚
So I know a lot of you love this album to bits though so let’s here what your favorite tracks are from this album? 🥕 #radiohead #pablohoney
