Garden Update (Sneak-peek): 7/22/2018.
I was remiss in grabbing a video last week, so It’s been 2 weeks since my last update! The garden is in an interesting place right now: rough looking but productive. Since my last update, I pulled the broccoli and cauliflower to prep beds for fall crops. We also harvested our edamame which was fun! They have been blanched and thrown in the freezer for future use.
We continue to struggle with beetles, so we started applying neem oil, which has been helping. Tomatoes are getting HUGE, and I’m excited to have the Amish Paste and Carbons ripen because they look awesome.
We are exploding with eggplant, which is great because we only got 1 last year (womp womp). Lots of Eggplant Parmesan in our future!
Squash is doing well and continuing to produce. I’ve started pulling plants that were unproductive and 1 Winter Fig squash that got wilt (thanks, cucumber beetles). So the bed is thinned out a bit but I think it’s healthier now.
One fun surprise is that the melon plant I thought was a failure has started producing fruit! We have *several* (😳) baby watermelons on the vine. We’ll see if they turn out!
Otherwise, carrots are doing well (I’ll harvest them next week), peppers are doing well (the jalapeños are especially prolific), hops are flowering (cone on cones!) and the potatoes may be ready in a few weeks! •••
