"Neither a wise man nor a brave man lies down on the tracks of history to wait for the train of the future to run over him."
Dwight D. Eisenhower. First and foremost these 🚂🛤 were closed! It is important to note that one should not idly sit around and take 📷 at railroad tracks in order to avoid a horriffic and painful death. With the tracks being covered by flash flooding all trains had been halted. I myself trapped as well on the side of the road for 4 1/2 hours due to being stuck between to flooded sections of road had the opportunity to snag the shot. I was also awarded with the opportunity to reflect on the on decisions made that may have been the cause of my groups current unfortunate circumstances. As we were leaving Valley of Fire State Park my selfish inclinations to grab just a few more pictures of the stretch of road drifting through the impressive landscape cost us about 10 precious minutes that likely would have let us cross before the road was to flooded.
We were just finishing a hike as the rain started coming down. The storms during monsoon season come up quickly and drop tons of rain in short amount of time. We had been watching the monsoons in Southern Utah for about the last week, and having just barely beat one out of the Narrows the day previously, we knew time was of the essence. Some of my group was also working within a time frame that may have been accomplished had it not been for my need to grab another shot. All in all it was an opportunity to learn, to witness the impact my small decisions can have on others around me, and an opportunity to grow from the eperience.
