I feel like black seed oil is officially a thing. Over the last couple of months, I keep hearing about it. Have you??⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Black seed refers to black cumin, or nigella, seed. It’s thought to be highly anti-inflammatory...and contain phyto-cannabinoids.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In my first pass at the info, there appears to be some evidence to support its anti-inflammatory function. Who’s been struggling to stay healthy in December? 🙋🏾‍♀️🙋🏾‍♀️ • Here’s my #fitindecember18 update : 🤸🏾‍♀️I’ve skipped 3 fitness days on my calendar 🤸🏾‍♀️I’ve been doing well staying on IF except for 2 days . 🤸🏾‍♀️I was feeling too deprived so I designated a random day as an indulgence day. 🤸🏾‍♀️one day at work I was stressed and went IN on dark chocolate covered macadamias nuts ;but at least it was nuts right ?)🤣 • Overall, I’m proud that I’ve been exercising more (kettlebells +dancing=#fitness!) and now I can commiserate with my patients when I tell them about my struggles. But hey, I’m real and I’m flexible, and there’s an important lesson somewhere in there about not giving up when you have a bad day 😁. • Feel free to make me feel better about myself by sharing your struggles haha.

What makes you smile? I have been an advocate for self care with myself and with those around me for some time now, but an article I was reading the other day by @iamwellandgood really resonated with me regarding our self care items and routines. . If your self care routine takes you hours and causes you to stress about running late to your next life event, something needs to change. If the classes, products, appointments or programs are breaking your bank, financially causing you anxiety, something needs to change. If explaining to others what your self care entails is exhausting even to you, something needs to change. . While self care is absolutely important to our health and well being, it doesn’t have to be complicated, time consuming or expensive. Let’s face it, self care has been hyped up virtually and on social media for a few years now, so much so there is even a designated day and hashtag people use to advertise their self care endeavors (hello #selfcaresunday). . But please keep in mind the most important part of “self care” is YOU….your sanity, your peace, your joy and your fulfillment. If all you have time for in the mornings is a warm glass of lemon water and jotting three items down in your phone of what your grateful for, great! If on a Saturday you can go for a longer walk with a friend because you have more time than on weekdays, perfect! . Seriously friends, the greatest gfit of self care you can give yourself is tuning into yourself… mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally and giving yourself only what you need in that moment. Keep it simple :)

✨The holidays can be stressful enough. Stop stressing about your weight! . . ✨Take off some of the pressure and just try watching the sugar intake, cutting out processed carbs, practicing self control or maybe it’s just keeping up your workouts during the holidays. Stressing about it WILL cause weight gain! . ✨Maintaining weight is probably the best method you could instill over the holidays and still be able to enjoy yourself and not go crazy. The key to anything is moderation, but let’s face it, some of us don’t have it, including me! So order to help you achieve that goal here are some simple things you can do to maintain a healthy weight or possibly lose if your instilling new healthy habits during the holidays. . ➡️Eat BEFORE you attend a holiday party. You end up eating much less and you can control what you eat at home rather than releasing the beast when you get to a party. . ➡️Try to cook at home as much as possible so you can enjoy yourself when you do have those holiday outings. . . ➡️Try not to go extreme. By saying, “I’m not going to drink, or I’m not going to eat sugar during the holidays” is enough to make anyone crazy and is a recipe for self sabotage. Maybe try taking days off from sugar or drinking or just even limiting to a drink or two or etc. . ➡️Stay active! I can’t stress this enough. With all of the holiday parties, office snacks and @hallmark movies it’s easy to want to skip the workouts. However keeping active in any way whether it’s parking in the further spot when shopping, taking the stairs, walking to work OR finding way to incorporate a walk into your daily schedule is key. AND incorporating AT LEAST 30 minutes 3-4 days a week on top of that with a workout is a great place to keep your gauge. . ➡️Avoid keeping baked goods, and other sugary or salty snacks in the house. Send them with the kids to school or your spouse to work, give leftovers to your neighbors, take them into the office....just keep them out of easy reach!. . ➡️ THINK before you eat. Ask yourself, “Am I hungry or am I __________ (insert bored, stressed, anxious, tired, etc). . ➡️Stay HYDRATED!💦 . 🤸‍♀️Outfit: @90degreebyreflex

Whether you’re looking for a new breakfast recipe, meatless Monday inspo, or a twist on taco Tuesday - this recipe is for you! . You’ll need a tortilla, eggs, and fresh veggies. I went with a non-gmo corn tortilla, 2 pasture raised eggs, and broccoli, kale, bell pepper, and tomatoes - but you do you - this is yourrr veggie taco!🌮 . You’re going to start by heating a tiny bit off avocado oil in a pan over medium heat, then add your veggies. While your vegetables are cooking, whisk your eggs in a small bowl. Once your veggies are cooked to your desired level of crunch, add your eggs and scramble away. Once your egg + veggie scramble is cooked you can add shredded cheese to the top (like a mild cheddar or monetary jack). Turn off the burner and be sure to cover with a lid so everything gets nice and melty. While cheese is melting put your tortilla between a damp paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds. Place your veggie scramble on top of your tortilla, then add your fixin’s- salsa, guac, hot sauce, a dollop of plain Greek yogurt... whatever you want! Oh kale chips, how I ❤️ you! Do you like to buy kale chips, or make your own? We are making a big effort to reduce the single use packaging in our 🛒 and are making more things from scratch all the time. The #1 trick to perfect homemade kale chips is to set your temperature as low as possible. Using a dehydrator at 105-115 degrees is ideal for preserving enzymes, but I cooked these in the oven at 250 degrees because I was hungry and that was about as patient as I could be. 😂 The other trick is to massage your oil into the kale to help break down the cellulose and make your kale more digestible. I massaged @nutiva liquid garlic coconut oil, @wholefoods muchi curry powder, and @himalasalt garlic Himalayan salt into these before putting them in the oven. They were so yummy we ended up eating the entire bunch of kale! Our big bowl of kale chips cost under $3. Compared to $6 or more for prepackaged kale chips, you can’t beat the price. What’s good for the earth, is good for your wallet, is good for you. Happy #toasttuesday friends! We had a BLAST at Great Wolf Lodge celebrating Josh’s 5th birthday. I still can’t believe he will be FIVE on Sunday. I painted my finger nails, I haven’t painted my nails in such a long time I can’t even remember the last time I painted my nails or had a manicure 💅. Since being diagnosed with celiac {2012} i had learned that so many skin products had gluten (nail polish included) so I have to be careful with EVERYTHING that goes on my body. Some may think it’s a hassle but after learning that skin care products do not get regulated by the FDA 😱🤬 , so think about this women use about 12 personal care product a day, which NON GET REGULATED or carefully get checked for different chemicals. # Always do your research before buying any beauty products. As far as nail polishes go, try and stay away from any nail polishes containing these 👇🏽chemicals. TOLUENE. CAMPHOR.XYLENE Methylisothiazolinone {MIT} this is a chemical used in shampoos to prevent bacteria from developing and may effect our nervous system. PHTHALATES - this is also found in shampoos but labeled as “fragrance”. SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE. Also found in shampoos, lotions, toothpaste. FORMALDEHYDE: a carcinogen known to irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory system. This is used on nail polishes as a hardened and preservatives. I have found a few nail polishes that I think are a worth trying like @ellamila, @zoyanailpolish or @orly breathable which is a 13-Free Formula and infused with Argan Oil, vitamin B5 + Vitamin C. Whenever I talk about potassium people always think about bananas, but lots of different plant foods are great sources of potassium. Many even higher in potassium than banana!. 🥑 Why do you need potassium in your diet? Potassium is a mineral in our bodies that functions as an electrolyte. They always talk about sodium with blood pressure and heart disease, but actually research shows that the ratio of sodium to potassium in the diet is MORE important! Potassium is high in fruits and vegetables and a variety of plant foods. If you eat lots of these you will automatically eat less processed foods which are loaded with sodium. This is a much more effective way to lower blood pressure than simply buying “low sodium” processed foods. 🥑 Potassium also helps to maintain healthy nerve function, fluid balance, and helps to prevent osteoporosis. 🥑 Other great sources of potassium along with the 2 pictured above: leafy greens such as kale and spinach, sweet potatoes, and portabella mushrooms.

@iamwellandgood has published their 2019 healthy-living trends for 2019, one of them being cortisol-conscious workouts. You may have seen the fitness trends starting to move from long intense cardio sessions to more strength training and yoga sessions. It’s all for good reason. When we exercise, cortisol, the stress hormone, is naturally produced. Our bodies go into a fight-or-flight mode, pausing regular bodily function and slowing your metabolism. With long, intense workouts the abundance of cortisol released has caused hormonal imbalances in both men and women. Cortisol is also associated with overeating, craving high caloric fatty and sugary foods, increased blood glucose levels, increased anxiety/depression, and relocating fat from the circulation and storage depots to the deep internal abdominal area. So what’s the answer when it comes to working out? Shorter training sessions, about 30 minutes will start to become the norm in 2019. Strength training with short bursts of cardio will raise your heart rate during the activity and will continue to burn calories even when you stop. This is because our bodies require energy to build and repair our muscles and this energy recruitment is what burns calories. Incorporating proper recovery is also key to your workout routine. Take a rest day and go for a walk, take a yoga class, or do a cryo therapy session. Your body will love you more!

Ooh these little treats don’t look pretty but they are delish!! And so easy to make- they would make an ideal gift for someone who wants a healthier alternative to a box of chocolates. ONLY 3 INGREDIENTS!!!! Medjool dates Dark chocolate Almond butter Melt the dark chocolate in a small bowl over simmering water or in a microwave. Make a slit in a date and remove the stone. Stuff the date with some almond butter so it closes nicely. Dip using chopsticks or a fork into the melted chocolate and coat evenly and allow the choc to drip off. Place the date on some greaseproof paper and allow to cool. That’s it! Do you Elderberry? These powerful berries have long been used as an herbal remedy for colds, flu, and sinus infections. Studies suggest that elderberry extract may offer virus-fighting, immune-stimulating, and anti-inflammatory effects. The problem is store bought elderberry syrup or gummies can be full of less than desirable ingredients and cost more. That’s why I like to make my own syrup and while I’m at it, make the syrup into gummies. They’re so easy and Bodhi LOVES them. below you’ll find the recipe and if you want to find out more about ways to protect yourself and your family from colds or the flu, check out my latest blog post, “Flu is not a season” ( link in my bio). . Ingredients: . ✔️ 2/3 cup dried black elderberries ✔️ 3½ cups water ✔️ 1 tsp cinnamon ✔️ 2 Tbsp dried ginger root ✔️ ½ tsp clove powder ✔️ 1 cup raw honey ** note there is honey in this recipe so it’s not recommended for kiddos under 1** . I don’t have a lot of time so my go-to method is the insta-pot. Put all ingredients except honey in pot, seal lid, and set manually for 9 minutes on high pressure. Vent pressure and strain. When cooled to room temperature, stir in the honey. voila! pour into a 16 oz mason jar and store in the fridge. . Standard dose is ½ tsp - 1 tsp for kids and ½ - 1 tablespoon for adults . Gummies: ✔️ ½ Cup Elderberry Syrup ✔️ ¼ Cup Filtered Water ✔️ 2 Tablespoons + 1 Teaspoon Unflavored Gelatin. . 1. In a small sauce pan, add ¼ Cup of Filtered Water and sprinkle on Gelatin. Let gelatin soak up water for a few minutes. turn stove on the lowest setting. You’re just warming the gelatin so it melts, stir the mixture constantly until the gelatin is dissolved and turn off the heat.  Keep an eye on it the whole time, too much heat will prevent the gummies from setting properly. 2. Once gelatin is melted add Elderberry Syrup and stir well. Pour mixture through a mesh sieve into a bowl 3. Place gummy bear molds on a baking sheet. Fill the molds using the dropper and refrigerate for at least 3 hours. Pop the gummies out of the molds and store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. They stay good for about 10 days. . Kid’s Serving: 5 Gummies ** Adult Serving: 10 Gummies

The Adrenal Cortex is the outer layer of the adrenal glands, which sit atop our kidneys.
