. 🙌🏻Grilled cheese waffles! Not very nutritious, but that’s what so awesome about intuitive eating! My kids are 6 and 2, I’m not about to deprive them of the goodness of a grilled cheese waffle! Teaching them a balance between eating clean and healthy vs demonizing food. Something I’ve had trouble comprehending myself for years, something I still struggle with today. (hence why I had just toast instead of the grilled cheese waffle) . ♥️Balance. The kiddos eat pretty darn clean most of the time. My daughter has full understanding on what foods are considered healthy vs what foods should be consumed occasionally. Balance. . ▶️Swipe to see a horrible how-to video on these grilled cheese waffles. I also tried to do voice over commentary with hubs... 😂 . 🍞Working on posting my bread recipe (nut free, grain free, low carb, keto friendly)! I’ll try to have it up this week. Maybe.... It may be 90 degrees in Denver right now, but Fall is just around the corner! So, obviously it’s time for some (basic) pumpkin spice recipes. Paleo baking can be difficult sometimes, but this recipe never disappoints! It’s super easy and definitely satisfies those fall cravings that we all get this time of year! Ingredients: -4 eggs (room temperature) -1 tsp vanilla -1/4 cup honey or maple syrup -1/2 cup melted coconut oil -1 cup pumpkin purée -1/2 cup coconut flour -1 tsp baking soda -1 tsp cinnamon -1 tsp ground nutmeg -1 tsp cloves -1 tsp ground ginger -chopped walnuts for topping optional Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs in medium bowl. Add vanilla, honey, and oil to eggs. Add pumpkin purée and mix until batter is smooth. Add coconut flour, baking soda, and all spices to the batter and mix until well combined and without lumps. Bake for 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out smooth. Enjoy!

In my post yesterday I said beware of the boring plate - the kind with zero color where all the foods are either white or brown. You know, like a typical kids meal (read: chicken fingers and french fries out the wazoo). At home I try to apply my same rainbow rule 🌈 when I make 👯‍♀️'s plates too. This experience stayed with me all day yesterday.🍃 . My friend, Kate, and I went to the gym for a quick Saturday workout. It was awesome! A bonus workout and social time.💪💪 . As we were leaving, we ran into a woman we see there often, but haven't spoken to. . She had changed her hair and we complimented her and also shared how we had seen her working hard and we had admired her before. . She was surprised by our praises and said, "That means so much more coming from a woman than a man".👈👈 . That struck me because women can be competitive or they can lift each other up. . I choose the latter. . Don’t let insecurities overpower you and not let you see the beauty inside and out of other women. . Challenge for the day: Compliment (sincerely) a women on anything from her smile to her shoes. 👉Let women know they are seen and strike up a quick conversation.💕 . 🌸Cycle Syncing Series: Menstrual Phase🌸 · Let’s start at the beginning: the menstrual phase (3-7 days). · Hormonally, this is when your progesterone plummets, causing your uterine lining to shed. Sex hormone levels drop to their lowest, making it easier for your brain to communicate across hemispheres (AKA it’s easier for you to explain how you feel about a situation with facts and then analyze it). · Your energy levels will likely be low, and you may feel more tired or introverted than usual. That’s okay! Lean into it. · This phase is about all things cozy and hygge—take a hot bath. Swap date night for a date with yourself. Cancel your HIIT workout for yin yoga (or a nap even)! Light a candle, grab a blanket, and read that book that’s been sitting next to your bed for weeks. · Food-wise, your body needs a lot of nourishment while it goes through something so physically taxing. Soups and stews are a good idea. · Focus on proteins and fats, as well as low-sugar veggies and fruits to stabilize blood sugar and get some important fiber and antioxidants. · Look for remineralizing foods like seaweed and kelp to fortify your blood with iron and zinc—two big ones we lose during menstruation. · Mostly, take it easy and focus on nourishing yourself, inside and out. · This process is INTENSE. Honor that and be kind to yourself. If you feel like you can do more, go for it! · But don’t feel guilty that you may not be up for anything energy-intensive. ***Support Daily Detox with Lymphatic Flow*** • ✨ • There are a number of different organs and systems involved with detoxification. One of them is the lymphatic system, which is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. • ✨ •The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white bloods cells, throughout the body. •it is primarily made up of lymphatic vessels that connect to lymph nodes where the lymph is filtered. •The tonsils, spleen, adenoids, and thymus are all part of the lymph system • ✨ • The Lymphatic System does not have a pump like our Circulatory System does (where the heart creates a beat which helps push and pump the blood around our body). • ✨ • Instead, the Lymph System requires daily movement of the body (especially our muscular system), and proper breathing, in order to move lymph through the lymphatic vessels to pass it through the filters in our lymph nodes. • ✨ • When your muscles are moving this also helps move and pump the lymph within its vessels. Walking, running, swimming, bike riding, yoga etc, stretching  and strength training are great ways to keep the lymph flowing. Dancing with lots of up and down movement or rebounding is particularly helpful because the vertical motion of exercise opens and closes the one way valves that comprise of the lymphatic system and can increase lymph flow by up to 15-30 times. • ✨ • I prefer to get upside daily, but I wanna know- what’s your favorite way to support your lymph system? • • PS- I’m currently on my way back to Texas from NY and definitely need to do some handstands and movement to support my lymph. Travel is the worst 😩

Some nutrients are artificially added back in but much of the original goodness is lost. It's all about fast easy processing and not nutrition. Think white flour products, pasta, pasties, pizza, cakes, biscuits, bread, white rice. Whereas vegetables, wholegrains, pulses and seeds and organic vegetables contain more micronutrients vitamins, minerals and trace elements all which are beneficial to health.

I am FASCINATED by the gut/estrogen dynamic and the interplay of the gut and its role in regulating estrogen! – (read in past posts for a more detailed outline). SO, what are some practical ways to help out that gut be in tip-top shape to set the stage for a healthy level of estrogen? 1. Eat a high fiber diet: This is eating a diet that is full of a diversity of different vegetables and fruit (and if you can tolerate them beans, lentils, and some grains). This is going to be the fuel (prebiotics) that your bacteria needs to stay happy and colonizing! 2. Eat fermented food: Fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, kefir, yogurt, etc. are rich in probiotics that can help restore and rebalance your gut. 3. Remove foods that aggravate the gut: Gluten is a food substance that can increase the permeability of the gut lining, contributing to “leaky gut.” To optimize healing, sometimes removing gluten-containing foods can help restore the integrity of the gut lining and its' barrier function. 4. Reduce your stress: The gut and brain are connected through the vagus nerve that runs from the brain to the gut. When you are in a stressed state, your body is in a sympathetic state where digestion is not prioritized. This becomes problematic because it slows or increase the movement of food through the body decreasing absorption and contributing to many unpleasant symptoms. Cortisol (the primary stress hormone that we talked about earlier in the month) also increases the permeability of your gut (making it extra leaky).
