If you don't think of water 💦 as being nutritious, think again! Water is undeniably vital to human life and as it turns out to our intelligence. Besides constituting 60 percent of the human body weight, water is involved in every chemical reaction occurring in the brain. In fact our brain cells require delicate balance of water and other elements such as minerals and salts to work efficiently. These electrolytes flow in and out of our brain with every of sip of water we drink. ➖ Further, water is indispensable for energy production cause it carries oxygen, which we need for our working cells to breathe and produce energy. Water also plays a structural role filling in the spaces between brain cells and it also helps form proteins, absorb nutrients and eliminate waste products. ➖ Drinking a glass of water first think in the morning which is essential after a night without fluid intake, can ward off dehydration. Dehydration disrupts energy processes and causes loss of electrolytes, a loss which the brain is particularly sensitive. It has been estimated that as little as 3 to 4 percent decrease in water intake can almost immediately effect the brain fluid balance causing a number of issues like fatigue, brain fog, reduced energy, headaches and mood swings. ➖ In the heat of summer, levels of dehydration can easily be reached, so make a point of drink eight 8-ounce water ( adjustment the amount based on your particular need) 💦😊. 📷: @studio50_ca

So refreshing! Love using basil to infuse in water. This year I'm growing cinnamon basil too, for a change. It's definitely a different flavor: the unmistakable basil spiciness with a nice subtle hint of cinnamon in the background. Perfect to pair with fruit salads and desserts. Here I'm enjoying a little lemonade made with crushed cinnamon basil leaves, about 5 large lemons and "spiked" with 4 or 5 drops of YL lemon essential oil!🍋I did add #xyla for sweetener to taste instead of sugar which is optional. I know it's not harvest time yet, but I see a lot of grapes at the supermarket. Did you know that they contain high amount of antioxidant substances? Especially grapes that include lots of kernels. 🍇 I know, those are the most annoying ones and we often end up buying the seedless ones at the supermarket. Unfortunately we only get the convenience with those and not the benefits. ✨ Also, to be able to effectively help our body's immune system, antioxidants should be consumed in the form of fresh, organically grown products. It’s grey here today! But this is my little ray of sunshine…a fully stocked refrigerator. ☀️ By now you know I think meal prep is about the greatest thing on the planet. You go to the gym, you’re managing stress, let’s make sure you’re eating well, too! Eating clean can be hard if healthy foods are not readily available. Lunches are particularly difficult for me. I hear so often people talking about how they “deserve” an indulgent meal or treat, whether it’s because of a success they are celebrating or because they had a long week and it’s finally the weekend. . . Or on the opposite end, someone has a weekend of indulging in perceived unhealthy foods, or overate in general, and will get on a super strict “clean” diet on Monday to “make up” for their indulgent weekend. . . I cannot stress this enough. Food has NO moral value. It doesn’t have the ability to be good or bad. So, it shouldn’t be used as a reward or punishment. As long as you are using food in this way, you won’t have a healthy relationship with food. . . Celebrating a success? That’s amazing, but it doesn’t necessarily have to involve using food to reward yourself - there are so many other things you can do for yourself that don’t include food. . . Over-indulged the previous weekend? Forgive yourself, eat some vegetables come Monday, and move on. If you force yourself to follow a super strict diet as a punishment, I guarantee you’ll end up overindulging again soon, probably the next weekend cause you’ll be miserable from your “clean diet.” . . You can absolutely have food be part of a celebration, but not because you HAVE to or DESERVE it - it should be because you WANT that food. Likewise, eating a really healthy meal after a celebratory weekend is totally fine - but not as a punishment for yourself, but rather as a way for you to do something kind for your body to make it feel better. We enjoyed the learning process, sharing this meal together, and appreciated knowing where our food comes from . . . ↠ food is so much more than just “nutrition”. as with this meal for us, it was a way to celebrate our new home, experiment, and create something delicious in the kitchen 🎉 . . . 👉🏻PS- this is the reason I totally give up on “labels” like vegan, vegetarian, etc. because sometimes -like weeks like this- I eat meat. Ever say to yourself things like, "I can't do it," or "it's too hard," or "I always fail anyway." Since your brain believes what you tell it, you end up giving up before you start. These are automatic thoughts we have and they develop for a variety of reasons. We become so good at talking ourselves out of making healthy changes to nutrition, fitness and lifestyle that we stay stuck in our unhealthy life. We might say "I want to eat more vegetables" but then go into all the reasons why it won't work. We believe these automatic thoughts without even questioning them. If this sounds like you, take a moment to stop and recognize what are the negative beliefs that come up. Then question them - don't just automatically believe them. If you can’t seem to follow through with health goals, consider enlisting the help of a health coach. If it is a persistent problem and is causing distress mentally, emotionally or even physically, consider enlisting the help of a mental health counselor. It’s testimonial Tuesday: Mary’s Story!! I met Agatha in the summer of 2007 through my Mom. It was my first summer in college and I had gone home to work for the summer and recharge for the fall semester. My mom told me about her friend Agatha that does “massages” and how she had made an appointment for me to get a “massage.” I literally had no idea what I was walking into. Needless to say, it was one of the best decisions I have made. Over the years, Agatha has taught me so much about myself. I learned how to let go of the past, remove toxic people and toxic relationships from my life, and overall to be more happy and let more light into my life. Agatha has also helped me with some GI issues that were related to anxiety and worry from hanging onto things from the past. My health and my diet have improved over the years because of Agatha’s advice. When I was pregnant last year, I again reached out to Agatha for advice about diet and supplements and to do some “virtual healing.” Because I live in Massachusetts, I am unable to see Agatha as often as I would like. Her ability to send healing even though you are physically not with her has been rewarding, sometimes I wish I could have an in person session. Agatha has an incredible gift and I am so fortunate that I have been able to experience it!

One of the many concepts that separates me as a holistic practitioner from other HCPs and even other holistic practitioners is called bio-individuality. Bio-individuality says that no two people thrive on the same exact diet or lifestyle. Thru my training I studied over 100 different dietary theories. What I have found is that they all work, each one separately does not work for everyone, and most people do best on a blend of more than one. We each had a chinese calligraphy lesson from my mom yesterday 🖌 It was so relaxing, the repetition is soothing and learning the strokes and meaning of each part of the characters was so fulfilling. Even the little one was entranced for over 30 mins, she became an expert in writing the number 1 (a horizontal line) in many sizes as you can see. While studying for my Integrative Nutrition course, I read plenty of useful information about daily habits & tips that can make ourselves feel better with little effort. So I decided to start a series of posts with #NutritionTips that might come handy on a daily basis. There might be some taboo topics, like today's, but I'm a true believer that these ones trouble us most. 🔹 Flatulence is the result of fermentation and putrefaction processes within the digestive system aka when gases occur. Many people associate it with legumes consumption. Fact is that usually it's not the ingredients themselves that are responsible for flatulence, but the way these foods are prepared. The right thing to do would be to soak the legumes in water over night, then pour the water away before eating them. If you're a fan, using antiflatulent spices such as cumin, coriander, and cloves is also a good idea. ✨ Let me know if you find this kind of information useful.

Love my porridge and berries for breakfast. Not because it is a good source of fiber, iron and vitamin B6, and not because it suppose to lower my cholesterol (btw, it does not). I just like the way it tastes and it's 100 times better than eating a bagel or any other wheat based breakfast. I always put lots of cinnamon and turmeric, plus a little bit of black pepper and Celtic salt. Ghee and berries are also a must. 👌
