While visiting Goddards last week, I was (once again!) impressed by the ease with which the late Sir Edwin Lutyens masterfully navigated between the macro and micro in architecture. . . From the setting in the picturesque Surrey countryside to the facades of this Arts and Crafts Movement masterpiece and the interior design, along with its many smaller details, each architectural aspect of Goddards is an exquisite work of art. . . And it is not just the architecture of this English country house that makes you drool. The designed landscape, created in partnership with Gertrude Jekyll, is also an absolute beauty, where the flowers are currently in full bloom and the herbs smell delicious. . . But I am not ashamed to admit that it was the skittle alley – where Lutyens too had played in 1901 – that was my absolute favourite 😍 . . A big thank you to The Lutyens Trust for opening up the doors of Goddards to its members, like me, over a full week in June every year. . . For all those who might now know this – Goddards is owned by the Lutyens Trust and serves as its headquarters. It is leased to @landmarktrust which maintains the property and lets out the whole house (except the library, which is reserved for use by the Lutyens Trust) as holiday accommodation for groups of up to 12 people. So what are you waiting for? @visitengland . . #edwinlutyens #artsandcraftsmovement #architecture #gertrudejekyllgarden #britishcountryhouse #surrey #countryside #countrylife #beautifulbritain #weekend #sunnysunday #latergram #landmarktrust #holidayrental #visitsurrey #visitengland #lutyenstrust #isc20c #thisplacematters

Ekbatan Town is a planned town in western Tehran, Iran. The construction of Ekbatan was started in 1975, for the purpose of mass housing. It was designed by Rahman Golzar and American architect Jordan Gruzen.Phase 1 of the town was then successfully built and completed by an American company , before the 1979 Revolution. At the beginning, Ekbatan was the largest property development by a privately held company in Western Asia. The constructors also owned Ekbatan Bank, which was one of the fastest growing privately held banks in Western Asia. The constructor group was owned in majority by Rahman Golzar and his family, and in minority by Mohammad Ali Bagherzadeh. In 1977, Mohammad Ali Bagherzadeh transferred his shares in the group to his children Ali and Goli. #brutgroup photo via #isc20c

The Mask of Sorrow, (Magadan, Russia. #brutgroup Artists Ernst Neizvestny and Kamil Kazaev, 1996 ) or the Mask of Grief is a monument perched on a hill above Magadan, Russia, commemorating the many prisoners who suffered and died in the Gulag prison camps in the Kolyma region of the URSS during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. It consists of a large concrete statue of a face, with tears coming from the left eye in the form of small masks. The right eye is in the form of a barred window. The back side portrays a weeping young woman and a headless man on a cross. Inside is a replication of a typical Stalin-era prison cell. Below the Mask of Grief are stone markers bearing the names of many of the forced-labor camps of the Kolyma, as well as others designating the various religions and political systems of those who suffered there. The statue was unveiled on June 12, 1996 with the help of the Russian government and financial contributions from seven Russian cities, including Magadan. The design was created by famed sculptor Ernst Neizvestny, whose parents fell victim to the Stalinist purges of the 1930s; the monument was constructed by Kamil Kazaev. The mask stands 15 metres high and takes up 56 cubic metres of space. #brutgroup photo via #isc20c
