: "Heaven" [Feat. Magic Monroe]
One of the things about being a black, gender-nonconforming individual living within the bible belt is that your entire experience is fraught with trying to live your truth while also walking the tightrope of what is expected of you as a god fearing individual. And when you are not a god fearing individual such as myself, you're likely going to find yourself at odds with religious folk proclaiming that you will go to Hell.
I wrote this song in part for my blood family to hear, frustrated that I can't be accepted as a nonbeliever while still trying to provide good works, whereas many religious folk who are self proclaimed Christians are fraught with deplorable actions and backstories. I view blind faith in organized religion in the same facet as I view blind faith in police, Capitalism, unbiased loyalties, etc.: as a means of control, for it allows one to accept what is presented for them without critique, providing complacency and allowing these systems of control and oppression to perpetuate unchecked. For those who still view me as damned, I retort with Galatians 4:16.
