This delicious Nourishing Winter Salad brings together all of your favorite winter veggies and fruits into one delicious, paleo-friendly and nutrient dense salad. Well.....the flu has struck the Moraes household 😷 Fabio is down.for.the.count. He called out sick from work for the first time in EIGHT years. Poor lil’ fella. Maybe it's a Brazilian thing, maybe it's a Fabio thing, but when he doesn't feel well, he doesn't want to typical starchy, bready things that I usually like. He wants...coconut water and fruit. Take time for yourself. Easier said than done, I know. I’m guilty of not doing this myself. But I find when I’m more organized, I get to enjoy “me time” more often. Taking an hour out of my weekend to meal plan/prep allows me that little bit of down time that I wouldn’t normally have if I was in the kitchen all night cooking and cleaning. Ok, a couple of LIGHTBULBS went off today, surrounding my early morning workout! I woke at 5 and ate breakfast immediately. The meal plan I’m on calls for me to have a carb, a protein, a veggie and a tsp of a healthy fat, such as a nut butter or coconut oil. Ok SO- I wanted oatmeal but what veggie do you have with oatmeal? 🤨kind of a weird combo..... No, my friends! I’ve found the perfect veggies for this exact application!! Cucumbers or celery. Don’t laugh at me! You can literally dip them in your oats with Greek yogurt and almond butter. Oh em gee! So good!! . Lightbulb #2- I don’t track my weights in workouts the way I SHOULD! This past week, I’ve been tracking what I lift for each exercise and today I pushed myself harder that I would’ve otherwise. Point? TRACK YOUR WEIGHTS if you wanna improve and get stronger! . Lightbulb #3- those little resistance loops that go around your thighs when you do glute work are NO JOKE!! #GoBlue!

I feel run down and achy today, possibly on verge of a cold or flu. I swear by this homemade remedy! If I feel like I'm fighting an illness I give myself an immune system boost with this super easy (and yummy) tea! I very very rarely ever get sick! Try it out next time. The recipe is forgiving, I don't measure anything. ----- Grate (or finely dice) a thumb of ginger into a pot and add enough water to fill a mug and then some. (Honestly I've never measured, I just fill my pot! But if I had to guess I use enough to fill 1 1/2 - 2 mugs of tea. This is because when you are boiling your tea, the water is going to reduce). Bring to boil and continue to simmer for 5-10 minutes. (I usually do 10). Add the juice of half a lemon and a spoonful of RAW honey if desired. I’ve seen arguments against this sentiment that say “Everything is a chemical. Salt is a chemical. Water is a chemical.” True. But in this case, if your great-grandmother wouldn’t have used it in her kitchen, we shouldn’t be using it either. Our bodies don’t know how to process and detoxify the hundreds of additives, flavors, and colors that are now added to processed foods. . . GRAS stands for Generally Regarded As Safe, and it is the Food and Drug Administration’s designation for additives that are “safe” to be added to foods. The problem with this is that the manufacturers themselves get to decide if an additive it safe. The FDA doesn’t actually test the additives put in our foods. Anyone see a problem with this? . . There are many food additives allowed in the United States that are banned in other countries. Not only that, US manufacturers often reformulate their products to be safer so they can be sold in other countries. . . What is this doing to our microbiome? Our toxic load? Our cellular health? . . We found some huge @tngrassfed roasts at the bottom of our freezer, so we ground two of them and now we have ground beef for DAYS. // Here's the easiest, quickest dinner of all time: Brown ground beef with diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Three years ago around this time, I was meticulously penning baby shower ‘thank you’ cards and sweating over nursery furniture manuals written in Danish. All but consumed with perfecting a registry of products recommended to me by “the experts” and the expert of experts: Mommy Bloggers. 🙄 (Sheesh, I would love a peek behind these paid partnerships with baby brands.) Aside from breastfeeding, I had truly put zero thought into how or what I would be feeding my future child. (Ironic how I thought a birth plan — of all things — was within the realm of my control 🤔) Fast-forward two and a half years, and I’m surprised at how integral the role of nutrition has come to play in my family’s household. How I choose to nourish myself and my kid can truly make or break our days. I’m at home with Graeme upwards of 90 percent of the week, and I’ll surmise to say that the grocery store-meal prep-cooking-feeding roller coaster has been (and maybe will forever be) enlightening and an experiment. But here’s what I’ve learned ... ______ As often as I can avoid it, I try not to feed my kid “kid’s food.” This notion of kids having separate menus, meals, foods they have to unwrap from a package or squeeze from a tube was developed half a century ago by Big Food to sell more stuff. The majority of these foods are processed and refined, and often full of sugar. It was a long time before I fully realized the massive commercial effort to be a ploy — it was one that had convinced me I was depriving my child if I didn’t buy him Spider-Man Go-Gurt and “organic strawberry milk“ (don’t be fooled by products wearing “organic” ... still check the label!) We’re fortunate to live in a city that offers a variety of kids classes and play spaces, but weirdly in my experience not much of a selection when it comes to nutritious lunch options. (Some of these places don’t allow you to bring your own food, which is like I get it you’re a cafe and kids have allergies, but also that’s not that cool.) 👉 Low-fat milk leaves out the protein and often vitamin D whole milk offers growing kids and replaces it with sugar for taste. Animal crackers taste like cardboard and offer a similar nutrition profile 🦓

Woahooooo it has been A LONG time since I posted here! I took a huge break from focusing on my health the last 12 months. Well, I was focusing on it, but more my mental state and my heart than my nutrition or exercise. I actually realized that I was in a really bad and dangerous with my food and exercise! My former eating disorder had manifested itself in a new way. I wasn’t starving myself or making myself throw up, but I was incredibly strict about what I ate and my internal self talk was completely awful! I berated myself constantly when I didn’t do everything perfectly. I took this very seriously and I quit restricting myself in any way and quit forcing myself to exercise! • It was really good for me to take a serious break. But the year wasn’t without ANY health & fitness accomplishments, I did train for and run a 10K — my first ever! I’m pretty proud of that one. And will probably never do another one again! • Anyway! A few weeks ago I started a ketogenic lifestyle and I am REALLY liking it. 3 WAYS TO UP YOUR VEGGIE INTAKE (and eat a rainbow 🌈) _____________________ 1. Spinach is probably the easiest vegetable to add to a smoothie, it has a neutral flavour that will go undetected amongst whatever you use to flavour your smoothie. Zucchini is another mild flavoured vegetable that can add thickness to your smoothie. Puréed pumpkin and sweet potato can sweeten your smoothie. Frozen peas, cauliflower and cucumber are other veggies you can add! 🥒 2. Its usually pretty easy to get your veggies in at lunch and dinner but at breakfast we often miss the opportunity for extra vege! Instead of your usual toast or cereal try making a vegetable filled omelette, a breakfast salad topped with poached eggs or smoked salmon, a green smoothie, add spinach and tomato 🍅 to your avocado on toast or try savoury porridge. 3. If it gets to the end of the day and you realise you haven’t eaten enough veggies swap the grain portion of your meal for spiralized vegetables instead. This works well for dishes that are based on pasta/noodles like spaghetti bolognese and pad Thai. You can spiralize a range of veggies like zucchini, carrots, beetroot and sweet potato and carrot 🥕 🍠 _____________________ ⭐️Aim for at least 5 veggie serves a day⭐️

As a mum it's so important to have a healthy breakfast but with everything we're juggling so often we don't. We grab something quick and convenient (which typically equals unhealthy) if we even grab anything at all. So I have to admit I get pretty excited knowing I can get loads of nutrients and superfoods (spirulina, mushroom powder, sprouts and more) hidden in the form of a vanilla milkshake. Not only that it's seriously the easiest thing to make: 1x frozen banana, coconut milk and my plant based vegan protein powder - pop it in the NutriBullet and bam, healthy breakfast sorted for the day, but it's also seriously yummy. Tastes like a milkshake only healthy... 🎶 (now I'm going to have the cocopops tune in my head all morning 😂)

I never knew how easy it was to make #bonebroth until a friend mentioned on her Instagram that she made her own. So here I am mentioning it here for whoever may need it. Take the all bones, skin, cartilage, from a roasted chicken (you can use turkey and beef bones too. Just make sure to roast the bones of you get them raw) and put them in your crock pot. Add any veggie scraps you have. I save mine in a gallon zip lock in my freezer and then pull them out when I’m ready. I always make sure to have carrots, celery, and onion but also have broccoli stems and a few other veggie odds and ends too. Put in a dash of good apple cider vinegar. At least 2TBSP I’d say. This helps leech out the nutrients from the bones. Then cover everything with water. Cook on low for 24 hours. Then take out big pieces with a slotted soon. Strain the rest with cheese cloth. Store in glass jars with a least one inch headspace if freezing. Guys, this stuff is LIQUID GOLD!! So good for your body and so easy. 🎉 #whole30

First time making an #aagwich and it was delicious! Really didn’t even miss the bread. Probably should’ve used more lettuce, but I’m happy nonetheless. Today is my Day 14 and I started a new workout program this morning and then experienced my first tiger blood EVER. 🐯💉. Like I had so much energy I got more done in an hour than I usually get done in three. I don’t think I’ve felt this way in years and I’ve decided, I would give up bread and chocolate forever if it meant I could feel that way everyday. How’s that for a #NSV? 💥 #whole30
