Terrific post- I couldn't have said it better! That being said I still try and avoid some ingredients MOST of the time and only allow them in small amounts... Sugar, wheat, tapioca, cassava, rice, soy... But remember, you still need to enjoy life. Stop beating yourself up about that tiny bit of sugar in your salad dressing. 😜

My Sunday night ramblings...
A discussion in a FB group got me thinking today, so I wanted to write a quick post on my thoughts. Comments/debate welcome of course!
***When someone asks "is this keto?"***
These are my thoughts based on more than a year of keto and hours upon hours of reading research and blogs, but I am by no means an expert so bare with me if I have missed or overlooked anything 😊
My stance - there is no food that's 'keto' or 'not keto'. .
Why? Because keto is not a food, it's a metabolic state. One that is reached and maintained by restricting carbs. Nothing else. Neither fat nor protein have a bearing on ketosis, just carbs. .
So that is how you choose whether you want to eat a food or not in the context of being in ketosis. If ketosis is what you want, then carbs are the deciding factor.
There's a second part to the equation - GOALS. That's where the rest comes in. .
If you want to maintain or gain muscle mass, then protein is very important. If you want to lose weight, then fat and calories matter. If you want to reduce inflammation, then certain ingredients will be important to avoid. If you want overall health, then nutrient density matters ... etc etc. .
So all in all, one person's version of keto can be a lot different to another persons, dependant on their goals. You can't claim something should or shouldn't be eaten without all-important CONTEXT.
I guess the purpose of this post is that I really want new people to consider this and choose foods based on what they want to get out of this way of eating rather than blindly following someone's recommendation because a food 'is keto' 😊 .
