An emotional trigger can be a person, a situation, words, opinions, environment, etc., anything that provokes an intense and excessive emotional response within us. There is no one size fits all, triggers are personal, what triggers one may not trigger the next.
Identifying your triggers is the first step from healing from them.
Some of my personal triggers are fear... loneliness... having no control of life situations and always waiting for the next shoe to fall so to speak. When I am facing a trigger I withdraw from life, and from myself and self destruct. That’s how I got to the point of drowning in bad food habits.
When it comes to my health and weight Loss journey, I have to be strict, I can’t have treats and snacks, even if they fit into my macros. When I eat “Keto” snacks, they remind me of my old ways of eating and is to easy to go off track and send me in a huge downward spiral. Working through my triggers and avoiding the foods I know set me off is key to my success. Living a ketogenic lifestyle has been my saving grace, and I love it but I still have to work hard at it everyday.
