Skinny fat anyone? . SWIPE to the left to see more transformations of others who went from skinny fat to lean and shapely. . . Let’s keep in mind, we all have a different opinion of what might be shapely. . . Not everyone wants to be overly muscular or even super defined. I get that totally. . . We all have different goals and aspirations and we all have a different idea of what our best body should look like. Personally, I wouldn’t want it any other way. . . Yet, there is one thing that I hear over and over again from many new clients... . . “Help me to reshape body. I don’t want to be skinny fat.” . . I love when I hear the words “skinny fat” because that gives me the opportunity to enlighten others about the one of the most incredible benefits of the Keto diet— the ability to bring about body recomposition. . . Simply put, body recomposition is when you reduce your unwanted body fat, while also adding muscle mass at the same time. . . Now ladies, don’t let the word “mass” scare you away. While you may not have much spot reduction control when it comes to body fat, you most certainly have control over where you layer your new muscle tissue. . . This also brings into play how I’ve used Keto body recomposition over the years to literally force spot reduction of unwanted body fat. This is, however, a topic for another post. . . I’m going to be addressing the skinny fat syndrome in more than one post, since there is much to understand when it comes to this topic. . . Today, let’s just do an overview on how you can attack that skinny fat and transform your body. . . This is by no means, extensive. In fact, most people would need to recruit the right help (coach or trainer) to get it done in grand fashion! . . That aside, here’s a start- . . 1) Set in place a Strategic Caloric Deficit. Stay with me here. This will shake a few heads and challenge some ( my close friends and contemporaries included), but you can’t lose body fat without a caloric deficit. I am getting ready to try these out. After my two month carnivore experiment as outlined on @kendberry.md ‘s YouTube channel for digestive problems, I am convinced that I have a histamine intolerance. Carnivore has resolved a whole lot of problems for me, but if I try adding back in a high histamine food like spinach or avocado, I immediately start to reflux. Bone broth is also apparently high in histamine and it has always made me violently ill. I read that DAO supplements are sometimes used for this and that they are made from pork or cow kidneys. I have already been thinking about how to integrate small amounts organ meats, and I’d rather use a whole food option than a supplement. These are actually freeze dried whole cow kidneys in a gelatin capsule with no additives. I have zero desire to try to track down kidneys (where would I even buy those??) and then try to make them palatable while trying not to be completely grossed out, so I thought I would try this to start and it’s all grass fed/finished - plus way lower on the grossness scale. I have debated whether or not to post this publicly, but I think that people need to see some of the honest realities of weight loss. I don’t have any before pictures of my legs, as they were grotesque with large lumps of fat sticking out, etc. This is what they currently look like after 13 months of keto. . I have lost 9 inches off of each thigh over the course of the past 13 months, and the circumference of one of my thighs was just over 2 inches larger than my waist is now. The skin has shrunk, but hasn’t quite kept up with the fat loss, so some of the fat that’s left collapses around my knees when I am standing and moves around under the skin. One leg is also a little larger than the other. I can also see muscle starting to peek out in the hamstrings and calves, and I can see the quads are actually quite large if I sit and hold my legs out parallel to the ground. . Here is the reality - these legs can do plate drag sprints with heavy weights like a beast. I can squat almost twice the amount of weight I have lost with these legs. I hiked for two weeks all over Ireland and Scotland with these legs. So I can choose to focus on what they look like right now, or I can focus on what they can do now that they never could when I was obese. Mental and emotional pain is real. It can cripple and suffocate you. It can and will take your goals and dreams and strangle them to death. . . Do you know pain? Personal pain, loss and hardship? Has your pain controlled you and your decisions and robbed you of your peace and joy? . . Well, I had a personal week filled with pain. Hard. It was tough. . . The mental and emotional implications could have controlled my every moment. Yet, that’s not how it went down at all. . . In fact, I’m sure my clients who may be reading this are like... “really?... I was talking with you all week and never caught a peep of your sorrow.” . . Why? Why no outward display of the inner turmoil— even the physical. Here’s why.... . . I’ve learned to condition my mind to lead my body and my heart where I want to go. I have learned to CONTROL my pain and NOT let it control ME. I have conditioned myself to become ONE with pain. . . It can be very easy to slide back. To withdraw. To leave your goals and aspirations behind as you sometimes seem to literally be struggling for your next breath. . . But you see, it’s in that next breath where you find victory and peace “in the current” moment. . . Do not let your pain, emotions and hardships control you. You must control them. . . How? One breath at a time. Do not see past your next breath. Focus on the NOW. . . . You see, when you’re down, you keep your head down and that drags down your heart as well. . . Lift up your head! Remember who you are and what you want this world to remember about you. . . Trust me... your hardships are not bigger than you. They may seem that way, but in the end if you were to look back, you would see that you were standing over them the entire time. . . Lift up your head. Eyes towards the heavens. Smirk on your face. Let no one remove that sparkle in your eyes. . . . It’s one breath at a time... one minute a time .. one day at a time. That’s how you and I win! All day.. every day.

Most are either simply low carb or doing an abbreviated version of Atkins. . We have dirty Keto, lazy Keto, strict Keto and on and on it goes. I’m sure by the time you read this, someone would have already given a new name to their own version of the diet. . . If Keto is done correctly, there is a world of difference between simply going “lazy” low carb, from that of following a healthy, highly metabolic ketogenic approach. . . Now, to be clear, there is nothing wrong with enjoying keto hack recipes now and then. . . In fact, most of the plans I design for my clients allows them the liberty of enjoying such meals. . . However, on daily basis I get inquiries from individuals truly discouraged and upset because they claim they are stuck and the Keto diet failed them. . . In almost all cases, it’s not the ketogenic protocol, but the adherence to the healthy, solid principles we all must follow — no matter what way of eating we employ. . . In order to do it right, make it sustainable and always progressive, you need to be consuming foods that are anti -inflammatory, feed your microbiome, keep unhealthy fats down and healthy fats up, while matching your particular needs which should be based on your goals and body composition. . . The reason why most people fail in the long term is due to what and how they are eating. . . It’s just not sustainable— at least if you’re goal is to keep getting leaner and/or bringing about body recomposition. . . If your goal is to get past a stall, then rethink your current approach. . . Are you planning more recipes rather than just prepping health meals that match your goals? . . Do you find yourself eating more cheese, bacon, nuts and cold cuts instead of portioned healthy proteins and fats? . . Up a lb, down a belt loop. I'm thinking it was the second dinner I had last night. I generally think scales are a POS. They're really only good for tracking trends. The difference between a day or week won't tell you much, but a trend for a month or two will give you and idea if you're on the right track. The main problem with scales is our consumption. On any given day I might have 64-150oz of fluid and 2-4lb of food. That's 6-14lb of consumption, an 8lb range. #ketoquest

Let’s begin with my cute little disclaimer. Unlike some of my contemporaries, I’m NOT anti-supplements. I’m actually working on my own private label products which really began in my own lab (kitchen) , as I created products for myself. Selling to no one— only making them for me. . Over the years, I’ve developed my own natural substrates for pre and post workout, metabolic boosting, blood sugar control, etc. And I still do so. . . When the time is right, my products will be available. Be sure, they will be powerful and all natural. . . My own personal concoctions flowed from my need to give my body what it wasn’t getting from food, because, for almost 20 years now, I’ve been fasting more than actually sitting down and eating — that’s a fact. . . However, now having stated that, let me be clear: MOST supplements being touted as fat burners, and claiming to harness special weight loss powers are PURE GARBAGE! . . If you didn’t get that, please go back and read it again. I’ve spent many years of my life studying the science of fat loss. How can I get my body ... harder.. tighter and leaner. Then, of course, give those same results to my clients. Which, of course, I’m sill doing. . . The problem is, most people want a quick fix. Just give me the pill. Tell me what I can drink or swallow that will just miraculously strip the fat off of my belly or thighs. . . We all need to get back to basics. Deal with the reality that those pills will not help to give you the willpower to just SHUT your mouth and not eat so many calories. That sauna belt or suit, will NOT let one single fat cell extinguish fat ANY faster than if you didn’t wear it. . . Fat loss occurs on the inside of your body as the laws of compensation work with your body’s energy needs , requirements and expenditure. . . Sure, that silver suit helped you sweat, but SWEAT, in and of itself, does not equate to fat loss . . If you want to lose fat, learn to control your portions. Learn to condition your body to USE fat for energy first ( YES, it can be done through mitochondria conditioning)...And learn how to workout and exercise EFFECTIVELY! So many workout wrong!

If you’re goal is to be leaner ( and I don’t care “where” you may want to be leaner), then listen up and read this post carefully. Any questions afterward, message me. Let’s Go 😎 . . You can be in ketosis and NOT burn one single drop of fat from that “hard to lose” area (love handles, pooch, etc.,). . . Did you get that? Let me say it again so that I can make it crystal clear. . . You can be in “ketosis” and not lose body fat. And, you can be burning body fat without being in ketosis. . . This is important to understand because the majority of people employing the Keto diet are doing it for the weight loss benefits. . . Yes, we love the mental acuity, the laser focus, the appetite control, the total lack of need or desire for sugar/carbs. All true. . . However, most of my clients— even my athletes— want body fat down and body ReComposition Up. . . This requires getting your body fat adapted, not simply trying to hold on to that an ever-elusive state of ketosis. . . The questions that I get asked the most almost always involve understanding the difference between being fat adapted and being in ketosis. . . Simply put, to be be“truly” fat adapted means that your body now prioritizes using FAT as its fuel source rather than glycogen (carbs), and to a lesser extent even protein. . . Please understand, when you’re fat adapted, it’s not only that your body prefers FAT as FUEL, but it also means that it USES fat more easily and highly efficiently at that. . . So, how can you get fat adapted? Well, I believe to get into a very efficient fat adaptive state, you must train and condition the mitochondria of your body’s cells. It’s more than just cutting out carbs. . . I will address this more intensively in an upcoming post since I’m running out of room. . . Why is this all so important and wonderful to understand? Because my only will you use and burn fat better and faster, but you’ll also stay leaner without effort and ... and ... you fall back into ketosis much quicker — even after a high carb meal. Yup! A lot has changed. The picture on the left was me in January of 2017 and I had enjoyed those holidays as you can probably tell. Carb city 😂 This was officially my before picture when I began my trial run of the #ketogenicdiet But it wasn’t an easy decision. My brother @real_life_keto_dad was telling me relentlessly about this new diet that he had found that he literally couldn’t shut up about. He raved about endless energy, crazy results, and foods you could eat like burgers, steaks, and bacon! He also told me about how healthy he felt, and the weight he had shed since starting his journey with this diet! It took months of convincing, but I finally gave in and the rest is history. This diet not only changed my life but it’s allowed me something that no other lifestyle had offered before. It allowed me something called BALANCE! Comin at ya with another #transformationtuesday post 🔥💪🏻 - The left was the week before coming back to school. During that time: 🤷🏼‍♂️ I was off of Keto 🤷🏼‍♂️ I was eating pretty much whatever I wanted, when I wanted 🤷🏼‍♂️ I was sleeping in (and I don’t mean just regular sleeping in, I mean hardcore till noon sleeping in) 🤷🏼‍♂️ But my workouts never suffered - It was nice to have a break from the 24/7 Grind, but I did feel overall sluggish as a result (you can even see the difference in body composition from left to right) - The right was yesterday! Since school has resumed: 💪🏻 We’ve been waking up at 6:30 every morning and crushing some early AM workouts! 💪🏻 Back on keto, stronger and more mentally sharp than ever 💪🏻 Overall, appreciating life just a little bit extra lately 😊 - So as you can see, sometimes we all just need to hit the reset button. Transformations hit plateaus all the time, and I’m certainly no exception to this rule. - I read a quote for one of my classes that seems applicable to this situation. The quote reads, “Life is similar to a boxing ring, you are declared a loser not when you fall, but when you refuse to stand up...” - Don’t let a plateau or heading in a negative direction keep you down. I know it’s easier said than done, but with each moment that you feel pinned down but manage to get up, you learn something new about yourself. - You learn about your strengths, your abilities, your drive and determination. - Use this new found knowledge. - Don’t lie down for anything or anyone. - Know your worth. Today's keto dinner: marinated grilled chicken breast topped with avocado salsa, broccoli, and small spinach salad. __________ Whenever we have chicken breast, our meal is always very lacking in fat. To counteract this, I started "making" my own salad dressing: 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1/2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar. Decent flavor and more fat/less carbs than my usual ranch dressing. ___________ I also found some toasted hemp seeds on clearance at Meijer. They dont have a ton of flavor, but add a crunch to your salad. My GP forgot to run an HbA1c on me at my physical 🙄 so I am doing my own. I love @everly_well and the tests are stupid easy to do if you are used to testing blood glucose and ketones.
