This dog pestered me for half an hour to take him for a walk in the freezing cold, cried all the way home when I cut the walk off at two blocks instead of going for his usual three blocks, and now is worshipping at the altar of the magical heater gods. This time of the year many are talking about how “happy” we all should Be... right? I mean, it’s Christmas and we celebrate the birth of the one and only King Himself— Christ. . . No doubt that’s reason enough to remain at peace and be content. I know I will be with Him. . . However, for years now as a coach, I’ve seen this time of the year be very difficult for some. . . I’ve witnessed and I’ve carried many through what seemed like endless tears. . . Regardless of perspective, we need to honor each other and consider that not all others may “feel” as we do. . . Some see this time Of the year as just another opportunity to fail. . . Already they’re depressed for a host of reasons outside of their health and body image issues. . . Now put on top of that the pain of not being happy with what you see in the mirror. Oh yeah, then comes January 1st and the New Year’s resolutions that always seem to fall off. . . I just want to take a moment to encourage those of you who may be struggling and heavy of heart. . . If you’re breathing today, you have the power and strength to turn it all around— no matter what the obstacles and challenges. Believe me, you do. . . Talking with new clients these last few days, I can sense that many are feeling stressed and hopeless. Yes, many others are feeling GREAT and that’s wonderful. But I’m here to talk to those who are not in that place. . . Keep in mind just 3 things as you struggle. None of which may be new to you. . . KEEP YOUR EYES ON YOUR PURPOSE— Why are you doing what you’re doing. Why do you need to improve your health and transform your body? Who will it impact and how? . . . How will your life change once you can look in the mirror and truly love the person you see staring back at you. Purpose! Unsure about yours...message me. I’ll help. . . PERSISTENCE— know and prepare yourself with the resolute stock in Body and mind that your goals will require persistence and discipline when you don’t “feel” like being disciplined or relentless. . . Especially in those week moments, stand stronger than ever with your eyes towards tomorrow. . Look up. You are far more powerful than you know!

My gut has been having trouble recovering from the antibiotics I had to take last month. Fortunately I keep @atrantil on hand. It kills off the methane producing archaebacteria that muck things up. So you want to shoot out the gate fast and hit ketosis as quickly as possible, right? . . That’s a good thing. Ketosis is a wonderful place to live 😁. . . Be encouraged. Don’t be intimidated by the people that ridicule Keto as unhealthy or unsustainable. They speak of things they know nothing about. . . I have been Keto for many years and I sustain it well. No cravings. None! Muscle? Mmm, yeah. Got that. Endurance? Got it. Mind health? UNSHAKABLE! Any competition for lifting or even running and training... give me a shout out... I will meet you anywhere and see who can “sustain”. 😂 . . I say all of that only because I get so many messages daily about how this person or that person was told to STOP Keto. It’s not good or healthy to continue. Totally untrue! . Now let’s move on. You want to get out of the Keto gate with a fury? Do the following— . . 1) Limit your carbs to 25 grams or less daily. Not “net” carbs but total carbs. Go with Arugula, Kale, lettuce and spinach for your first few days. NO “net” carbs. After that, you can transition to a more net carb approach. If you can handle a pure protein base with NEAR zero carbs for a few days— do it! . 2) Get to Steppin! Move your body and extinguish all of the stored glycogen. Yes, there are very aggressive, productive ways to do this faster, but assuming you can’t do that... just move. Power walk, run the steps in the house if you have any. MOVE! Your goal is waste away that glycogen. Fastest way is by moving more and cutting out all carbs. Full body workouts will work best if you can do that. . 3) Utilize Fasting— remember, without glycogen, your body must tap into your fat stores. By restricting all food, you’ll use up whatever glycogen you have faster. Also, exercising on an empty stomach can take you to ketosis-ville much faster too. Keep in mind, the sacrifice is temporary. Unless you’re like me and love to fast, you need to balance and do things that are sustainable for your lifestyle. Fasting can also be done strictly for caloric deficit in which case you can have things like bone broth and small fat feedings to satiate and encourage lipolysis. Questions? Hit me

I got some @americanmetabolix vanilla cake Keto Meal in to try. I’m not really a fan of this flavor - but I added some pumpkin pie spice seasoning to it which was really nice. The chocolate has been keeping me on track while I have been running between hospitals and doctor appointments for Mom and Dad for the past month, so I decided to try this flavor next. I am not a fan of meal replacements as I still think real food is far healthier than powdered meal substitutes, but this one is pretty clean. One of the questions I received more than a few times this past week in my stories was: “are you against high fat consumption?” . The question came in a variety of ways. Like, “ you seem to believe in high protein but low fat... true?” . . We need to keep this all in perspective. . . Personally, aside from my OMAD protein feeding ( usually beef), I don’t ingest enormous amounts of protein like most think I do. . . In fact, given my size, it’s relatively low considering my body weight. . . This is especially true when one considers my needs given my caloric expense/nitrogen depletion due to workouts and resistance training. . . Keep in mind, however, I do believe in anticatabolic nutrition and liquid aminos which I utilize to the fullest. . I’ve stated this so many times, and it needs to be reiterated over and over again. Your lifestyle and goals should dictate your daily macro array ( grams of fats and proteins). . . I do not believe someone who has stubborn body fat to lose should be prioritizing fat over protein in their daily diet. . . While calories in and calories out will NOT always give us the end result of anyone’s metabolic caloric partitioning, you need to keep the basics in check. . . While walking the macro tightrope, remember the basics. Each gram of carbs and protein has 4 calories, while each gram of fat has 9. This means that you’re consuming more than double the caloric load per gram than protein. . . If your goal is fat/weight loss, you don’t need copious amounts of fat, as some of it should come from your own body stores. . . The beauty of the Keto diet is that it forces your body to USE fat for energy. Why would you want your body to use the fat you’re eating instead of the fat on your belly or hips? . . This does not mean that you can’t have lots of fat if your macros and goals allow. Again, we are Keto and so we don’t eat carbs. This permits us to ingest higher amounts of fat than what a high or normal carb intake diet would allow. . . Your fat intake, much like your protein intake, should shift up and down based on your body weight/composition and your own personal goals. . . Its all about goals— your goals!

I haven’t been posting much lately, as my life is pretty much a circus right now. Today has been insane. My dad went to the hospital for a brief procedure to drain over 5 liters of fluid out of his abdomen. I didn’t go at first as it’s a minor needle procedure, but there was an issue so I ended up rushing to the hospital and working from there for half the day. Thank goodness my job is flexible and allows me the freedom to do that. At this point we are relatively confident that Dad does not have cancer, but we are waiting for a final biopsy to confirm it. The mass on his stomach is most likely some kind of weird cyst according to the doctor who did the latest biopsy, and it may be what is filling the abdomen with fluid. The final biopsy should be in next week. Mom is still recovering from her shoulder replacement, and I am absolutely exhausted from trying to keep up with everything. I am just trying to stay afloat and ensure that I take care of myself too. Hopefully we can get some answers for Dad next week. Every day seems to be just putting one foot in front of the other trying to survive this mess. It’s no joke to look in the mirror and not be happy with what you see. . . For some, It can be downright brutal. . . There is a definitive correlation in multitudes of studies showing that obesity leads to depression. Then in turn, that leads to an even greater degree of obesity as eating increases to help sooth the depression. It’s a vicious cycle. . . It’s might be easy to tell the person struggling..”stop eating or eat less and move more...” While that might be true for some, it doesn’t work for all or even most who battle the psychological food connection. . . The mind and heart are powerful on their own, but when they join forces, they can seem unstoppable. . We can’t ignore the scientific truth that other factors play a role in obesity— genetics, hormones, metabolic dysfunctional diseases, etc. . . Now, if we put that aside and try to deal with this at face value, we must also acknowledge there is a mental-physiological connection that contributes to it. . . Emotional eating — while many do eat for nutritional value and necessity, many eat because it makes them “FEEL” good. . . In other words, there is no real hunger. The eating is simply emotionally driven for the sake of comfort. . . There are a multitude of triggers that can cause this: . 1) Anxiety 2) Depression 3) Loneliness 4) Stress 5) Anger 6) Fear . . Interestingly, if you look over the list, you’ll find that most of them actually feed off of one another. That is to say, you get stressed so you eat. Then after you eat you get anxious because you know the food was not the answer. Next what sets in? Depression. Then what...you eat again. See where I’m coming from? . . Then there is binge eating which is a disorder that leads to excessive, compulsive eating. You’ll find the same emotional struggles and mental issues here as well. . . Having worked with thousands over the years, I never see my clients as simply numbers. . What I try to do is help my clients to overcome these challenges practically. . Here— . 1- Pinpoint the cause of stress or depression. Address it . 2) Find someone to hold you accountable . 3) Find another way to soothe other than food- Hobby, activity

For me getting my fats in early really helps me set up the rest of my day. I don’t drink coffee so this is a substitute called pero. Another day, another hospital waiting room. Thank goodness for @americanmetabolix Keto Meal and @fatissmartfuel F-Bombs so I can stay on track with my keto diet. Dad is having another biopsy on the mass on his stomach, but this doctor thinks it’s just an oddball defect in his stomach muscle. Then we’ll be off to the ER again to have the fluid drained out of his abdomen again. We still don’t know where all the fluid filling his abdomen is coming from, but we do know there are no cancer cells in it now. Truth. I followed the government nutritional guidelines for most of my life and became fat, sick, and diabetic. I did the opposite of the government guidelines eating a fat-heavy diet with lots of red meat similar to my ancient ancestors, and removed carbs and sugar from my diet. This allowed me to heal myself, lose weight, and become a badass in the gym in spite of starting with an arm and shoulder that I was just relearning how to use due to an injury. Having some guayusa tea in my moon boot mug. I have a bit of a migraine caused by my bad shoulder acting up, and I have found that guayusa tea works better than any medication. Not sure if it’s the caffeine or what, but it will knock out my migraines within and hour or two if getting a couple of tea bags worth of tea down. I am also icing the big knot in my shoulder as well. I do get far less migraines since I have been keto, even with the shoulder triggering them, and they are much less severe when I do get them. #keto #ketosis #ketogenic #ketoquest #lchf #intermittentfasting #fatfueled #hiit #girlswholift #weightlossjourney #weightlosstransformation

My face is so red. My trainer sat on the plate drag sled and made me pull him across the floor using the battle ropes. He’s 220+ pounds. My heart rate got up to 156 doing that, but I managed to do it. If anyone could have made excuses for the past couple of weeks, it’s me. I had both of my parents in the hospital, and was trying to juggle their procedures and needs, plus running home to make sure Jethro got food. I still made time to get to the gym and made adjustments to stay fully keto. I made some compromises, such as eating @americanmetabolix Keto Meal for some meals instead of real food so I wouldn’t have to eat the poisonous slop they serve in the hospital. I was also smart enough to ask for help from my family instead of trying to go it alone. My aunts were amazing at filling in with Mom while I had to be with Dad for his procedure, and my cousin came and stayed at the hospital at night so I could go home to take care of the dog and get some sleep. The reality is that if I had let myself go off the rails with my diet and exercise, I would have been immediately less healthy and able to handle the stress of taking care of my parents. It’s even more important during times like this to not make excuses and do what I need to in order to take care of myself. The intense exercise also helped me process through all of my emotional turmoil so that I could be mentally and emotionally present taking care of my parents. It’s #CarbNite with a gluten free cupcake for my insulin and leptin spike. I can tell that along with the berberine, the carb nites are really helping keep my female hormones balanced out as I am really training super hard. My body (especially my female hormones) can’t take super-strict keto or carnivore without occasional insulin and leptin spikes to keep my hormones balanced.
