Matthew is long time friend and client. Our relationship is very dear and close to my heart. Matthew had general procedure of a Tonsillectomy, which shortly after turned into a stroke when at home recovering. When this unfortunate event happened he lost a lot of control of upper and lower extremities. In a result of loss of blood; doctors performed limb lengthening surgery hoping it would help, which turned into two more major operations. We weren’t sure if he would ever walk again. KFIT quickly realized that our strength and mobility expertise would benefit him greatly. The KFIT regimen put in place for Matthew included stretching, natural body movements and functional exercises. In the beginning, Matthew’s mobility was not there. The exercises were meant to allow him to use his own strength to be able to be self-sufficient again and participate in everyday activities we take for granted, also help him to be more pain free due to spasms. Another huge part of his recovery regimen was resistance training using body weight, bands, and pool exercises. These exercises improve muscular strength, endurance, and mobility. The pool was especially powerful for Matthew because it allowed him to increase his flexibility and range of motion. The effects were seen and felt shortly after the exercise. Discouragement and the feeling of giving up was some of the biggest challenges we faced. However the gradual increase in his health and our persistence was what kept Matthew going. This was one of the biggest challenges KFIT has had to face. Matthew’s journey was filled with obstacles and we faced them head on along the road to recovery. Every client is different and the focus should be on more than just training. It is a good thing when your client’s trials and triumphs touch you on a personal level as well. How to keep yourself ACCOUNTABLE by @kalananglos 👊 • I get it, sometimes you just DON’T want to go to the gym. Sometimes it seems like you’re dragging your ass, and not making any progress. Luckily, there’s certain things you can do to help see results and keep yourself accountable 💥 • The first step to any program is to WRITE DOWN your goals. Make sure they follow the SMART (Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timed) formula. After that, make sure to WRITE them down - this helps keep them “real” ✍️ • From workout to workout, make sure you’re tracking your workouts and any progress you’re making. Sometimes it’s hard to FEEL like you’re making improvements, but by writing it down you objectively see where you’re getting stronger 💪 • Finally, if you’re really struggling to find the energy to workout, my suggestion is to put your shoes on, and just GET yourself to the gym. That’s the hardest part.
