Two years old or ninety-two; it doesn’t matter your age, just find that friend who doesn’t mind getting dirty with you, who will hold your hand on the trail, and who embraces a soggy diaper if it means spending time together. These two: opposites, and yet inseparable. I could watch them together all day. Don’t get me wrong. They fight - hard. But they are capable of communicating so well and helping, and encouraging one another. ⠀ ⠀ Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

I’m always thankful when the kids can keep a steady pace on the trail but the stop and smell the roses climb a tree rock scrambling kid gets all the best shots.

Cue Johnny! “We’re going to Jackson...” We got to Jackson Wy and so did Sarah! First of all the drive from Yellowstone to Tetons?! 😍😍😍 we stopped at the snake river overlook to get the iconic picture Ansel Adams took. On the way we stopped at the Colter Bay visitor center to get information and jr ranger books. The ranger approved of our hiking choices, so we were excited. We set up camp, got groceries, then checked out the awesome town of Jackson. Then had to stay for pizza and beer 🍻

Waking up to my boy being sad and under the weather was not the plan for today ☹️ He's so cute when he's feeling bad, he grabs a blanket off the sofa and tucks himself up. It's how I always know for sure he's not feeling great when he does that. Definite sofa day for us two today 👍 • . . . . #fullheartmamas #thisismotherhood #acupofmotherhood #mamahood #parenthood #therealityofparenting #ig_motherhood #ohheymama #honestmotherhood #igmotherhood #motherhoodalive #mamalife #mamavlogger #motherhood #motherhoodthroughinstagram #motherhoodunplugged #mummyblogger #amomentinmotherhood #powerofnature #freespiritedchildhood #capturingtheday #theoutdoorchild #magicinthedetails #earthytones #bohemian #mywild #thesweetsnap #mywildchild #kidsoftheoutdoors

😄 #petitbivouac Yesterday, she spent a good part of the afternoon playing Fifa 18 on the PS4 🎮. She is a fan of football ⚽️and does not recover from the victory of France 🇫🇷🏆. I let her do it because we had a lot of work. Until she makes a monumental nervous breakdown 🤬 because she was losing her match against her brother. Suddenly, we took her away for a refreshing bath of nature after the thunderstorm. There is no better way to put things back 🤪! We could observe deer 🦌 not afraid at all and discovered another beautiful and wild area that we did not know yet... just close to the house. She quickly found a smile! 😄 #petitbivouac #adventuretime #adventurefamily #adventurewithkids #exploringwithkids #runwildmychild #raiseawildchild #takeyourkidseverywhere #kidsanddogs #optoutside #playoutside #familytime #gooutstayout #getoutstayout #kidsinnature #kidsoftheoutdoors #liveauthentic #lovelifeoutside #wildandfreechildren #homeiswhereyouparkit #naturekids #neverinside #naturelovers #intothewild #aventureenfamille

Talk about a scenic swim, Akaroa harbour is created from an extinct volcanic crater and is nestled in the heart of a charming French inspired village. I know I say this about every spot in New Zealand, but this really is one of my favorites!

I wrote a blog post a while back about making an effort to be in pictures more. And then today I saw @borntobeadventurous talking on their stories about mamas being present in photos more... This got me thinking about my post again. And so I returned to the blog and added some more recent photos... I added this photo.. because I love it. Not because of how I look... but because of how L and I look together. Smiling, laughing and wholly in the moment. And isn’t that what a photo is supposed to do. Freeze a moment in time, so that you can return there in an instant? And remember why it felt so special? So I ignore all the self-criticisms about my hair and thighs and weight and stained t-shirt. And instead I look at this photo and I smile big because we won’t ever have that exact moment again. And I am so thankful I happened upon borntobeadventerous’ story today. Because I had been slowly slinking back out of the photos. I’ve been hiding behind the lens again... so today that reminder was what I needed- to step out and enjoy the countless moments. And to just get in the dang picture. "Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. On our recent camping trip near the White Mountain National Forest we found this flowing brook that had some calmer areas once you navigated over the more powerful currents and rocks. The whole experience was definitely an adrenaline rush but one I'll never forget. Pictured is Daddy and Forden in one of the calmer areas, cooling off as it was close to 90° this day. Today we made the hike up to Denny Creek to play in the natural waterslides to cool down. The biting flies were out and E was not having a great time hiking. It felt much, much longer than the 2.2 miles round-trip, but as soon as we arrived, she proclaimed "this is more like it!" We all splashed and slid and cooled off and spent time with our friends. Good old summertime fun. But as a note, 90 degree days doesn't look that great on you Seattle. 🔥🔥🔥 . . . . . #unpluggedchildhood #dennycreek #naturekids #cooldown #splash #hikingwithkids #adventuremamas #wildchild #wildernessculture #naturalslide #summervibes #optoutside #kidsoftheoutdoors #kidstyle #luvbug #upperleftusa #westcoast #cascades #outfamcommunity #parentsofthewild #experienceseekers #pnwisbest #pnwkids #thispnwlife

Day five at Yellowstone we slept in and had a big pancake breakfast. We were so glad we got geyser crazy and did the old Faithful area in one day. This gave us this day (our last in Yellowstone) to sleep in and do what we all love to do: find a quiet hiking trail to a lake or pond and sit and enjoy the views. We stopped at the volcano mud area to see the mud volcano and dragon’s mouth. Bison were all around right next to the boardwalks along the walk. This was worth the stop being in the area. The dragons mouth is so wild to see and hear. You can tell where the name comes from. From there we were done with crowds and sight seeing. We were ready to just enjoy the park in it’s natural state. We got the kayaks approved by the rangers and our small watercraft license. Thanks to the ranger he led us to Gull Point Drive and another perfect spot off the beaten path. We sat and enjoyed the beautiful views of the mountains and kayaked the shoreline of lake Yellowstone. There was even a little area for the kids to kayak on their own in calm water that was encircled by land. The “beach”’is made of tiny pebbles and rock made from lava. The colors are black browns and even glass looking. Sometimes it is sharp on your feet so make sure you wear water shoes. Also, the mosquitos are there so bring bug spray and set up your spot away from the trees and grass.

Day four at Yellowstone we decided to take on Old Faithful and everything surrounding. We prepared ourselves and kept joking that it was like going to Disney. So many things to do and so many people. We were an hour away from the area and decided to start at the Grand Prismatic and midway geyser Basin. One the way there we saw a beautiful young male elk right on the side of the road. We safely viewed the elk unlike other people trying to get close. We can not believe how close some people get to these wild animals! The line was so long to get into the small parking lot (for such a popular spot) so we decided to head to the lower basin area. The fountain paint pots were so fun to watch bubble and pop. I think the boys could have watched that all day. Clepsydra was also stunning and worth the stop over. There were many crowds here but it seems as if everyone clusters at the front and doesn’t walk to the back. We then drove back to Grand prismatic and the line was better. Excelsior greats you with steam and haunting views of its size. Watching the water run off into the river is amazing. As you walk up to Grand prismatic you can see the vibrant colors off the surface, all shades of blues and oranges. We liked the view but wanted to see it from the top! Next we planned on doing the fairy falls hike to overlook the Grand prismatic. The bathroom line was so long at Grand prismatic that we assumed there would be one at fairy falls. Well there is not nor at biscuit basin or black basin. With kids with camelbacs on and adults that drink coffee this is an issue. So we headed to Old Faithful. We actually got there 40 min before old faithful performed. So we had a picnic lunch and waited. It was so exciting and surreal to see Old Faithful. The kids loved it and squealed with excitement. After we headed back North to Black Sand Basin. This is a short walk with a ton of character. Totally worth a stop to see all the lively hot springs geysers and basins. We listened to a ranger talk about all the scientific and medical advances and discoveries that have been done because of the bacteria and organisms found in Yellowstone’s hot springs and basins. Continued in comments below

Day three at Yellowstone we moved camp south to Fishing bridge, the drive was beautiful and filled with wildlife. We set up camp and decided to do something nearby. Right down the street from the campground is Pelican Creek Trail. We took this short trail through the woods and ended up on our own private beach on Yellowstone Lake! Gorgeous views of the mountains and pines all around us. The kids ran so fast and screamed with excitement. The water was freezing but the kids and adults did not mind. We were able to walk out really far and still the water was only waste deep. It was so amazing to swim in the largest alpine lake that was also the center of the volcano 640,000 years ago. We hung out here for a will sitting and enjoying the views while the kids played.

Day two in Yellowstone we explored the Norris geyser basin. To say you have to see it to believe it, is an understatement. This unearthly place is filled with geysers, basins, and bubbling mudpots of multiple colors and sizes. The noise of the wind and geysers, hot springs, and basins was haunting. The smell and heat coming from the area was unreal. Ava loved just looking over the the entire area for above, she said it looked like the moon and mars mixed. Owen loved waiting to see vixen geyser explode and that some of the basins were stinky. We highly recommend taking the time to walk the back basin trail. Every basin and geyser is so much different then the next. Vixen geyser is predictable and often so you can get up close and personal to her exploding performance. A few from our group actually got sprayed a little and were surprised to feel that the water was cold. The emerald and basin were jaw dropping. The colors were so vibrant. Hot, bubbling, smelly, vibrant, geysers, hot springs, and basins all in one location. Standing by a geyser you really get a sense of how small and fragile we are. Standing on a caldera of a super volcano will do that to you. My two favorites on back basin trail were Echinus Geyser and Emerald Spring. We hit this area before lunch time and did not have a crowd issue. Next we went to Canyon village for ice cream (obviously ) and to pick up the scientist jr ranger books. This is where the crowds were cray cray. Could have been the time of day or that the sights to see here are all in a very close area. We started at Lower falls and hiked to get a better view. It was stunning and a moderate hike with elevation changes. Inspiration point and uncle Toms trail were closed so we headed to the South rim and saw a black bear along the way a little of the road grazing in a meadow! We went to Artists point which is another must stop. The view down the canyon is iconic. The Yellowstone Grand Canyon is amazing and Artists point gives you a spectacular view of it. Highly recommend making that spot and take the time to sit and stare at the beauty and colors of the canyon.

Flashback #41: Yes, that’s a real, living, breathing bear. We volunteered on a wildlife refuge a few years ago and got to help tag black bears and do bat research. This was a 600 pound male that we had just tagged. As I lay spooning this huge bear, his arm around me was about 50 pounds and I could feel his chest inflate and deflate against my back. Have you ever had a close encounter with wildlife?

No matter how many times I called out his name, he didn’t turn back. Still not sure whether he was being brave or reckless.. but the sea drew him like a magnet 🌊 . . This picture is particularly dear to me.. it holds what I love a lot - the ocean - and what I love the most - my little fearless boy 💚 both being caressed by the evening light. I will collect and cherish this memory. . . Some people say that such moments should be lived and remembered not taken pictures of. I guess there is always a risk of overusing your camera and forgetting about being present. But I still like making some moments eternal by a click. What about you guys?. . And how many ships can you count on the horizon? 😉 . . #travelmemories #collectmoments #fearlesstoddler

My soul is dancing in happiness!! Look at my adorable mini-me getting down with some salty yoga this morning as we arrived to the beach right before first light hit. Reef was totally content watching the waves roll in and out in the stroller until we had our breakfast picnic as the sun rose. We also picked up another huge bag of trash, mainly single use plastic so let’s all try out best to just say no!! Since we’ve been back in town I’ve had an abundance of reminders how powerful my mind is and how life is all about perspective. My goals I set for myself once I got back from my “mountain therapy retreat” I’ve been charging at and it’s been paying off so much that I just want to cry I’m so grateful. After much persistence I was finally able to purchase a “resident only” beach pass which also includes several local pools, playgrounds, clean parks, splash pads and free concerts! We’re totally hitting up the Beatles Tribute Band on Wednesday🙌🏼🙌🏼 I have Bikram tonight and hot vinyasa tomorrow night and packing up on Thursday for a nearly 2 week family adventure. My joy is overflowing into my family and life is finally feeling right on track again. I’ve had some hardships in the last week that I haven’t mentioned on social media but these heartbreaks are shaping me into the best mother and wife that I could ever dream of... this hurt I’m experiencing is giving me the daily motivation to do BETTER! We all need these reminders sometimes so I’m grateful for being open-hearted and receptive to these blind blessings sitting right in front of me. #ThankYouUniverse #adventuremamas #TheMitchellTribe

y e s 🌿 Mum, aren't the mountains just beautiful? Shall we make a sculpture with this ice? Can we play in the snow and climb on the rocks? . We just spent 4 days in the mountains with friends. In a lodge tucked away from it all. No cellphone reception, no wifi, no commitments. But what we did have was plenty of laughs, adventures, friends, and mulled wine. Connecting with mother nature, whilst connecting with friends. That's living 💚

The kids are loving playing outside. As much as we love our grand adventures, sometimes there is nothing better than a day at home - in the garden, playing simple games and running through the sprinkler. The end of term is drawing ever closer and the children are getting more and more tired as the days go by. Days at home are just what they need - and they had a pretty lovely weekend. I'm now in Wales for a few days and I will miss this cheeky little face - and his sister's, obviously. But more than that I'll miss their cuddles. I hope they'll be saving them up for Friday for me.
