"Glitter" >>> Well I guess it's safe to say that "Glitter" is probably Mariah's most infamous and critically panned albums. But after listening to it for a long while now all I can say is that the press and critics really do love to exaggerate for the sake of media coverage. I understand that the movie was quite uneventful, boring and predictable, but the soundtrack was quite alright, definitely not as bad as critics portrayed it. What I like about the album the most is obviously the vocals, something the critics couldn't really fail to mention. Another thing would be the lyrics, they're not the best lyrics written by Mariah, but they are pretty good. Now on to the missteps that do stand out. Mariah has a tendency to include certain featured guests when they're definitely not necessary, she's done that on several occasions in her career. Some of the appearances on the album seem forced and really lackluster.
But although I do compliment her vocals, some moments didn't feel genuine, and despite the amazing vocal performance, certain songs lacked conviction and genuine emotions.
1. Loverboy (Remix) - 7/10
2. Lead the Way - 7.5/10
3. If We - 7/10
4. Didn’t Mean to Turn You On - 6/10
5. Don’t Stop (Funkin’ 4 Jamaica) - 6/10
6. All My Life - 5/10
7. Reflections (Care Enough) - 7.5/10
8. Last Night a DJ Saved My Life - 6/10
9. Want You - 7/10
10. Never Too Far - 7.5/10
11. Twister - 5/10
12. Loverboy - 7/10
So in conclusion I would probably give this album a 6/10 myself. I've listened to it many time over the years to see where I stand with this album, and all I can say is that it's pretty decent, not as good or great as what Mariah is usually known and capable of, but still decent.
