Happy International Mountain Day 🏔️ Mountains are my happy place. They are humbling, stunning, challenging, rewarding and crucial to so many. I feel so lucky to spend do much time in some of the most amazing mountainous regions in the world, and here are a few of my favourites - such as the Annapurna region in the Himalayas, where I captured sunrise over Machhapuchchhre (Fish Tail), a sacred mountain revered by the local community and a sight I will never forget.
According to the UN almost one billion people live in mountain areas, and over half the population depends on mountains for water, food and clean energy.
Yet mountains are under threat from climate change, land degradation, over exploitation and natural disasters, with potentially far-reaching and devastating consequences, both for mountain communities and the rest of the world.
