Have you tried Brainbox?
Yesterday we bought our second of it's great range of memory learning games....actually, when I say "we" my daughter insisted on buying with her own money so she could lay claim to it like the first Brainbox set she bought last month.
In each box you have a set of thick, sturdy cards, an egg-timer and a dice. And of course the instructions, but briefly the premise of the game (and it's the same with each box) is:
🔹Each player in turn studies the picture and written information on the front a card chosen at random from the box for 10-20 seconds (depending on age), trying to remember as much of the picture / text as they can.
🔹They then pass that card to the next person and throw the dice, the number thrown relating to a question on the back of the card.
🔹The opponent holding the card reads out the question which is about the studied picture and writing. If the player gives the correct answer they keep the cars, wrong answer and the card goes back into the box.
🔹Taking it in turns for 10 minutes per game, the winner is the player who has won the most cards at the end.
As we've discovered, each box has its own degree of difficulty - the first one we got was based on Roald Dahl books and was very visual, with not much text to remember. However this Inventions collection of cards has *so* much to remember it will really test our recall. We will be learning a lot about the history of these inventions at the same time, so all good.
So at around £10 per box, it definitely a great game series to start collecting to have something to quickly play if there's time to fill or a few games back to back if you're ready to test your memory.
I'm up for the challenge again today after soundly being beaten by son and daughter yesterday!
