At 8:08pm I get that text from a friend. I get that text you've all received before, the text that grounds you, reminds you who you are and who you are not. I get that text that makes time finally stand still for 1 minute in this whirlwind we call life, so I can take a moment and process everything.
My friend quotes the famed Adib Taherzadeh, "Human society at present exerts a pernicious influence upon the soul of man. Instead of allowing him to live a life of service and sacrifice, it is highly competitive and teaches him to pride himself on his accomplishments. From early childhood he is trained to develop his ego and to seek to exalt himself above others, in the ultimate aim of achieving self-importance, success and power." And that, my friend (yes, you!) is a powerful reminder. That as we succeed in our personal lives, we remember the refinement of one’s inner character and service to humanity are inseparable facets of life.
It's been a whirlwind semester (in a good way) preparing for my qualifying exam while taking on opportunities to build up my career. Very thankful to friends and family who understand and ground me when I forget to remember.
This is a picture of a most beautiful spot on Earth where I felt time stood still, and I understood the purpose of life so well.
