Okay Istanbul, it’s time we had a talk. I love you. You know I love you. Despite your flaws you’re still one of my favourite cities in the world, but there is something missing in our relationship, and I’m hoping some of your lovely residents can prove me wrong.
So what’s missing? It’s pretty simple... Food. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Turkish food, and it’s never tasted better than how it tastes in Turkey. However this alone simply won’t do, as it’s variety in cultures, style, and tradition which are seriously lacking here. In London you could find markets all across the city, from Brick Lane, to Portobello Road, in Soho, along South Bank, and of course Camden. Markets which hosted a range of foods from countries all around the world. Cooks would take pride in displaying old fashion dishes, alongside modern and experimental ones. There truly was something for everyone, whether it be the person who wants to try something new, or the homesick expat. The strong, hearty carnivores could indulge alongside the frail, unhealthy vegans. A trip to food markets such as these wasn’t just a chance to eat something cool. It was an education.
Now like I said, I’m hoping some of y’all (my Turkish followers, namely those who’ve experienced these markets in London) can prove me wrong and point me in the direction of some quality variety which this city has to offer.
