The Adventures of Lionheart, Temple Cat-Abandoned Pet Blues💙🐾
It happens every year. You thought were important, special and how could anyone live without you and then Someone goes on vacation. The hot part of the summer arrives, the suitcase comes out and you know what is next.
The cold reality hits and you’ve been left to fend for oneself, abandoned for who knows how long. Long boring days with no one to talk back to, punctuated by lonely nights and always waiting. Will it ever be over? What if this is for good? Arrangements have been made for your care (so what), there are notes all over the house, stashes of canned food, toys, friends arrive they pet you but …its not the same.
You would think Jackson and Xena would wise up and see the signs of what is coming. However once again were they were caught by surprise and this time they acted out.
Xena expressed her feelings by throwing up on the bed and a few choice spots in the living room. Then she spent her afternoons languishing on the sidewalk in front of the house. Looking for affection from the stream of walkers, joggers, kids heading to the park and telling the story of her neglect so Everyone in the neighborhood knew that Someone was on vacation.
First Jackson’s hot spots in his groin fired up into scarlet rashes. Then he developed some pox-like welts under his armpits and a big pustule on his nose. It was hot …and he is pitta… but it was theatrical enough to get an emergency visit to the veterinarian since his allergic reaction resembled symptoms of the black plague.
Actually it was rather masterful strategy that gained him chinese medicine stuffed in duck and pea pill pockets for his hot blood. He got rid of his boring organic kibble in favor of home cooked turkey, brown rice with carrots, beans with a dollop of yogurt for a probiotic. Now that Someone is back, he gets an afternoon coconut water apertif. He used his hound dog eyes to work the guilt angle in addition which garnered him an extra daily walk.
Xena and Jackson deserve some credit for being smarter than they look.
They have given me some ideas for the the next vacation…
