I volunteered at a book store this weekend and there a nine year old girl came to me asking for a book.
The name of the book was '13 Reasons Why'. I knew enough to not provide that book to her so I asked. 'Why do you want to read that book, it's not for kids?' Her reply shocked me.
She said that she's depressed, her parents fight everyday, her friends pick on her and when she saw this book on internet, she wanted it because it might help her.
But I differ, I don't think something like this would have helped her on the contrary it might just push her over the hedge.
Her grandfather was accompanying her so I confronted him about it. And he just like many of us was unaware of scenario at their home. He lived elsewhere and had just taken his granddaughter out to enjoy. He said he'd look into the matter and thanked me.
But it shook me to the point where I couldn't let it go. Simple words can make it or break someone. So think twice before saying anything rude/mean to a person. You may not mean it, still it could have a great affect on their life, more than any of us can ever realise.
Be kind, it doesn't take much.
Control your actions in front of kids. They're native, they learn what they see.
And confront these demons because we may not be aware but slowly they eat us alive from the inside.
Tell me your views about the post.
