Day 595/182/85: Pet number 1) This is Derek, he’s a Devon Rex, he’s 4.8kg and 4 and a half years old!
He was mummy’s first pet as an adult! Back in 2013, when she lived in a flat and worked full time, she googled a cat that’s most like a dog and Derek’s breed came up so on Valentine’s Day in 2014, he came to live with her! His breed is known to love a cuddle but be super active - he’s an indoor cat and he likes to climb on things so he can watch the world go by so if we can’t find him then he’s probably on top of the fridge. His climbing habit means he’s smashed countless amounts of things, from glass vases to large water filters, so anything breakable has to be kept out the way 🤦🏼♀️ he’ll play fetch for hours, he likes to chase flies & once jumped out a window after one 🙈, and he regularly sleeps on top of the back of the sofa even though he has a tendency to fall off it mid dream 😂
He has a heart condition, like mummy, and he’s allergic to a lot of foods which make him grumpy & make his hair fall out, so he’s on a special diet. This doesn’t stop him from trying to eat everything and anything, so food can’t ever be left out when he’s around, and we once found him with his head inside a chicken whilst mum went to the toilet mid cooking 🤦🏼♀️
He loves to watch the rabbits and once opened the kitchen cupboard door so they could get inside and eat the bag of sugar 🙈
Mummy calls him a grumpy old man because his markings make him look like he’s permanently unimpressed, but he doesn’t have a nasty bone in his body and, unlike most cats, if you pick him up for a cuddle then he’ll happily sit still and let you! He has the loudest purr and his poos are absolutely ginormous 😂💩🙈
He can be a pain in the arse and he’s exactly what you’d expect from a Devon Rex; a hyperactive but affectionate monkey. 💗
Swipe through the pictures for the time he went in the fireplace 🙃 and what he looked like as a baby!
