In the verse above Paul said we do not "wrestle" against flesh and blood. He didn't say fight, he said wrestle. The word wrestle is very important because if you consider the nature of the spiritual battles we face they are more like a wrestling match. In a wrestling match there is a constant struggle to stay on top and that's how it is in spiritual war, especially when it comes to the battle between what we believe vs. what we feel.
This was a battle I used to always lose in because I always went in the direction of my feelings. I had to realize that it's a battle that we have to DECIDE to follow what we believed whether we feel like it or not.
You can be totally cast down in your heart and feel like going back to your old ways or just feel like telling God to just go away, but yet, you know in your heart that God wants you to press on because His promises are true; it's the decision you make at that moment that will determine victory in that spiritual wrestling match - your beliefs or your feelings .
Do you find yourself getting the victory when you're in the wrestling match between belief and feelings? If not, then you're losing the spiritual battle. Yes it's hard, especially when you're stuck in negative emotions, but we are soldiers of the Most High and we are called to victory over anything that hinders us and/or sets us back (Hebrews 12:1). God loves you!
Give your life to Christ
Say Lord I confess my sins, and I make You my Lord and Savior.
