Running: Cheaper than Therapy! I saw this sign as I ran the @madisonminimarathon on Saturday. I finished the Half Marathon in 1:49:20, beating my goal of 1:50 by 40 seconds. 😊 I had a fantastic time meeting up with @teamrwbmadison and other runners across the country. .
As someone who has been to many a therapy session as they battled depression, this sign hit home. Nine years ago I was at a very low point. In last picture below I was on a family vacation in Myrtle Beach and was supposed to be having fun. As you can see, I wasn’t. But I was going to therapy and being taught the tools I would need to conquer depression. It would take a few years for it to sink in though. 😳. These tools included making myself a priority, setting realistic goals you can meet every day and week, surrounding yourself with a support system who will encourage you with those goals, and distracting yourself from the depression making yourself busy generating positive energy when the demons come knocking on your door. .
I’m happy to say that I am winning the daily battle. I have made myself a priority, make goals (and get the thrill of victory when I beat those goals), have a great group of friends, and distract myself with a race every now and then. 😁
