So, 7+years ago, when I lived in Houston, I played roller derby. I loved it, though (as usual) my ability to be a Mild Mess didn't help me be the best player, so I played recreationally, and not on a competitive team.
But I stopped when I was expecting my son. Then I moved away. To the middle of nowhere. And I kind of let my passion die down.
Meanwhile, in Houston, my sister (who I helped her get into derby)took over the Rec League. No really... she became team captain and had been ever since.
So her team came out to San Antonio to play a game that we went to watch. And just like that--I remembered. I remembered flying on skates. Bashing into people, the team spirit, the fun, the athleticism, and the great booty workout!
So I found a league 40 minutes away. Which, the nearest big grocery store is about 25 minutes, so we have to drive a good distance here, no matter where we go.
My wonderful husband got trapped in my Hot Mess of giving him directions for picking up our son tonight(sorry honey), and the eventual putting up with me traveling back down the worm hole that is roller derby.
But, it makes me happy. It makes me feel strong. It makes me less likely to throat punch someone. Or maybe more likely to throat punch someone...I'll get back to you on that.
Go out and do what makes you happy!
