Before ➡️ After. I know this isn’t the typical before and after you’re used to seeing, and that’s the point! As I scrolled through hashtags today and mom Instagram accounts I saw SEVERAL posts that are exact opposite of this post. Women showing a larger version of themselves as the before and then a skinner after. Well guess what? My after is several pounds and sizes up! And here’s the kicker...I’m actually a happier woman now!⠀
The girl in my before photo was almost black out drunk 4-5 days a week. The girl in my before photo was a size two and absolutely miserable and treated her depression with outrageous partying. The woman in my after photo is a size ten and happier than ever before. She’s mentally healthy, has a stable life, owns her own business, runs 5ks, and loves her daughter.⠀
I hate how Instagram and the media is encouraging the “SnapBack” ideaology for moms, saying they have to go back to their pre-baby size in order to succeed as a mom and be happy as a woman. It’s so not true! Everyone keeps trying to sell products with this message that a skinnier body, especially for women and moms, is what you should want and is what is healthier. It’s time we stop buying into it and take control of our own health and body image!⠀
The journey is different for everyone. Before and afters look different for each person. What is healthy varies from one person to another. Progress looks different for everyone. We have to stop buying into this one size fits all mentality and pushing our “afters” on other people saying that’s the only way to achieve happiness and health. Abs don’t always mean victory. Weight loss doesn’t always align with achievement. Diets, shakes, wraps, and skinny teas do not define health or postpartum success! You are an amazing mom and beautiful woman no matter your size! And you don’t have to want to be a size 2 or 4 or any size smaller than you are now...I don’t!
