Marathon Training - Week 10 🌿 I completed my half marathon this past weekend so now we are onto the marathon! I will admit that I’m a bit nervous about this week’s long run (18 miles 😬) but I’m going to take it slow and remember that it is ok to walk when I need to especially since these upcoming distances are longer than anything I’ve ever completed before. 2 months from today is the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend and I’m so excited to tackle another 26.2😬🏃🏼‍♀️ I’ve been putting in the work on the roads, in the fitness room, and in the kitchen (aka weekly healthy meal prep😜). I was thinking today about what motivates me. One thing that sticks out is how good I feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. After losing weight, becoming a marathoner, and working with professionals to overcome my eating disorder and PTSD, I feel like I’m a completely different person than I was 3.5 years ago. Keeping my eyes on what I want to accomplish and working everyday to slowly get there excites me and fuels my fire even more. Speed | The sunset view on my way home from a busy week made me stop I’d but for a brief second and reflect about the goal I’m about to undertake and the challenge of the Chicago Marathon. I have been excited about it for quite a while but it’s quickly coming now that a lot of the harder prep work is behind me. Last weekend not only did I do my first 20+ mile run but I also hit more 1,000 miles for the year and more than 3,000 total. I have met some many awesome people on this journey to a better/ happier/and hopefully healthier me and I am very thankful for that. Thanks for challenging me, supporting me, and changing me. I’m sure most of you have heard of “flat feet” or “over pronation.” Usually when these terms are thrown around, people tell you to use a stability shoe or an orthotic.  Those can sometimes be helpful, but how about trying to strengthen your muscles to give you better control of your “flat feet?” 🔻🔻🔻 This drill will do just that. Stand on a decline with the instep is on the downward side of the decline. First, just try maintaining balance without allowing your foot and knee to collapse inwards. Then try adding in single leg mini squats to make it more dynamic and running specific. If you’re having foot, ankle, knee, or hip pain with running give this a try!
