Timehop reminded me a year ago today I posted this quote and Iโ€™ll be damned if itโ€™s truth doesnโ€™t still linger one year later: โ€œAs I look back on my life I realize every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better.โ€ For all the opportunities I have been given, I have doors closed in my face, too. Doors at work, doors in my personal life, and even doors in my fitness. But not getting everything we work for or want is a part of life and how we learn to adjust and adapt. I believe everything happens for a reason, and for every door that closes another door opens. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Keep KNOCKING! Tempo Thursday and goodness gracious did my body need this ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Real talk yโ€™all: my husband straight up ruptured his Achilles the other day ๐Ÿ˜ณ And things at our house have been a little intense since...when I say my husband is my partner, I mean heโ€™s literally normally my partner in EVERYTHING. Heโ€™s the kind of guy who works his tail off at work and then comes home and helps nonstop until he goes to bed. So for him to be in extreme pain AND completely incapable of loving his family the way he wants...itโ€™s just been challenging. I feel very overwhelmed and havenโ€™t handled it graciously the entire time ๐Ÿ˜” . Marathon training doesnโ€™t happen in a bubble, yโ€™all. Real life happens and it isnโ€™t always easy or something you can prepare for. Iโ€™ve lost a ton of support from my greatest partner less than 2-weeks out from a really important race. Iโ€™m emotionally and physically worn out. I couldnโ€™t feel more distracted or burdened. My heart just hurts all around. Butโ€”Iโ€™m going to just continue giving my best and hope itโ€™s enough. With my race and my husband. Sometimes that + continual prayer is all you can do. After surprising Jezza's Mumma Bear with an unexpected visit for her birthday we both went off running around Christchurch. Jez ran 37kms and I ran 18kms. Such a beautiful city and a really beautiful sunny day too. Perfect conditions for running. 3 weeks until our Marathon in Antarctica.

Gastroc isometrics for that dang Achilles โœ… one of my coworkers who primarily works with runners taught me this exercise. Itโ€™s performed on stairs, balls of the feet hanging off, holding the feet out as straight as possible to keep ankle in neutral, and if possible (and safe!) - no UE support (more reliance on gastroc to fire). 4x15 sec holds. Incorporating this into my daily routine. โ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ขโ€ข 4 easy miles @ 9:19 pace. Opted for an easy run and skipped my speed work for this recovery week. We spent part of our run talking about what weโ€™d want to eat afterward, because this is the important stuff. It came down to a delicious #forksoverknives lentil enchilada recipe Iโ€™ve made in the past or a baked sweet potato dish we love. I actually ended up going with a slightly different version of the sweet potato - the #savorybakedpotato recipe from @minimalistbaker. "Focus on where you want to go, not where you currently are." My recovery journey continues .. and slowly. But I'm moving in the right direction and that's what matters.This injury may keep me from running like I want to, but it won't stop me from working. * swimming 3-4x/wk * elliptical 3x/wk * spin bike 3x/wk 45- 90 min sessions * weight training 5x/wk I started running last week... at a very slow pace and only 1 -3 miles at a time. So I'll continue to slowly work my way back up. I had an ultrasound today and my leg is healing but still far from 100%. Trying to continue to be patient but that's a work in progress. Lol... So for now, I'm going to keep my eyes on being injury free. Youโ€™ve picked a race and trained hard for probably many weeks and months and now itโ€™s time to shine! โœจ I used to get SO nervous for Races, and I still do, but as Iโ€™ve prepared for my 16th marathon and training cycle (and many, many other races), Iโ€™ve learned a thing or two along the way! Iโ€™m not an expert but here are a few of my top tips for keeping yourself ready on race week! . . ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Keep your normal routine. Routine is very important as it relates to sleep patterns, digestion, overall performance and more. Change as little as you can from your normal routine to ensure a better chance of a great race! . . ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธStill Run the week of the race. Make sure youโ€™re decreasing your training volume effectively by your personal plan and taper smart, but donโ€™t do too little either. Shorter runs at an overall slower pace are good with strides and some goal paces too to keep your legs from feeling stale on race day. . . ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Stay off your feet the day before, but do go for a short run! Avoid hanging at the expo for hours the day before, it will zap your energy! Get your bib, see one or two things and go. Also Running a short run, the day before the race to avoid staleness in the legs. Keep it short, around 15 mins, no more then 20. . . ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธTrust your training! This one is huge! Donโ€™t compare training logs now to yourself or anyone else. It will only do harm mentally. Youโ€™ve likely put in the work if youโ€™re serious about your race any self doubt now will hurt your race day. Be confident! . . ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธEat, Relax and Smile! ๐Ÿ˜„ These may seem easy and silly but I believe they are the biggest ones of all! Make sure you sleep, eat well, laugh a little and remember how lucky you are to be in running shape and towing the line at your next race! . . Disney World Marathon ๐ŸŽ‰ Finished 26.7 (yep!) Magical Miles this morning in 3:44 and accomplished the goal of โ€œFinish, Fun, and Feelโ€. Proud to have finished with a short 3 weeks of training after a calf muscle tear on 11/15 (taking an Instagram photo ๐Ÿ™ˆ) Had โ€œFunโ€ stopping to high five and take photos with so many characters. And โ€œFeelโ€ because I breathed in the privilege to be here and run. Bob was with me on this run. Heโ€™s the late husband of my good friend Suzanne @sknecht and a Disney race was on their bucket list. He was with me the entire time. This medal is for you, Bob. ใ€ฐ๏ธ A few fun facts about the Marathon. The course weaves through all four parks plus ESPN Wide World of Sports. My favorite part is running through Cinderellaโ€™s Castle and around Baseball stadium at ESPN. Your photo is on the Jumbotron and name announced. There are at least 20 characters along the course and you can stop and take photos, DJs playing music and jokes on posters line the course between parks. Itโ€™s a great race and this year was the 25th anniversary. So.... why did Goofy wear two pairs of pants golfing? #tbt to last monthโ€™s One Hour Track Run! Finished 5th female overall. Originally the photographer thought these pictures were lost so I was happy they were recovered earlier this week! The goal of this race was simple...โ€run as many laps around a track in one hour.โ€ When the hour was up, you had to freeze until the race officials measured your distance. I had never done anything like this before! My goal was 8 miles but unfortunately I started a little too fast and burned out towards the end. My official distance was 7.84255. With all the wars, turmoils, natural diseases, He doesn't have time or capacity to think about sports! God cares about us, so there is no small detail that is too unimportant for Him. Plus, He is not human. He can take care of gazillion people and matters at the same time. So next time you wonder if it's ok to ask/pray to God for "something small", just do it! "Ask and it will be given to you. Matthew 7:7 ๐Ÿ‘God doesn't give the victory to the most faithful. 48% of Americans actually believe that Christian athletes are rewarded with good health and success. God doesn't work that way. He loves all believers and unbelievers the same. Being a Christian doesn't automatically guarantee success. Ok imagine you are in your car. Don't you need to start the engine first before you go? God cannot move in you when you don't move. Once you start moving, God will guide you, like a GPS, leading to your destination (purpose). So besides faith, you also need to work for it! ๐Ÿ‘God cares about sports, just not the way we do. He cares about the people playing the sports, we simply care about the outcome. We care, because our identity often lies in our achievements. He cares because sports is an opportunity for Him to spend time with us and to glorify His name. ๐Ÿ‘Will God love us more if we do well? No! There's nothing you can do to make God love us more or less. Winning or losing, He still loves us so much that He died for us. At the end of the day, God cares about how we do it (with a pure, selfless or greedy, selfish heart) NOT what we do. He doesn't care if you're an Olympian, janitor, CEO, truck driver, waitress or pastor. His love for you is not based on who you are, but who God is. So I tweaked a groin muscle during my speed workout yesterday. It seized up on me during my first mile repeat. ๐Ÿ˜ซ Lots of rolling and stretching going on over here. It felt better this morning so I went out with the mindset that I would cut it short if needed, ended up doing my 6 miles.
