#planetEarth and #planetMars are converging for a #closeencounter with its closest distance to occur on April 14th, which happens to be the same date as the #fullLunareclipse.
The distance between the two planets is shrinking by about 186 miles every minute. When the convergence ends on April 14/15th, the gulf between #Earth and #Mars will have narrowed to only 57 million miles which is a small number related to the scale of our #solarsystem.
#Astronomers call this event an “ #oppositionofMars” because Mars and #theSun are on opposite sides of the sky. #Marsrise in the east at sunset, and soars almost overhead at midnight, shining burnt-orange almost 10x brighter than a 1st magnitude star.
