A few years back I wouldn't even thought of getting this far in my craft. And by craft, I mean photography. I still have so much to learn, even more to practice, but the level I am at now is way higher than where I started from.
Taking advanced "selfies" (like this one) is one of the skills I developed that I am most proud of. Of course it's not neuroscience, but still, I love the fact that I can produce some of my content completely by myself.
It started out that I didn't like the fact that I had to depend on someone else when I wanted to get my shit done. So I grabbed my tripod, got myself a remote control, stood in front of the window light in my apartment and started shooting. And bam, I was ready to go!
And you can apply this to anything else in your life. If you want to get something done, make something happen, don't just wait for it. Step up your game and do it yourself.
Because you can. And you will!
