AUSTRALIAN ATHLETES GET BEHIND DesguisED !!!! Feb 24, 2018, The Centre Ivanhoe, Melbourne
I caught up with Triathlete George Skoufis who started Dieting one Monday at the age of 19. He began striving for what he considered the ‘perfect’ athletic appearance. He developed anorexia, then after 2 years bulimia and binge eating disorder, where the scales ruled his life, his mood & how he felt about himself.
He says: ‘An eating disorder is a very misunderstood illness. The focus on food is misplaced. Eating disorders are usually made up of problems or trauma that people are unable to cope with, that manifest into disordered eating. Battling through an eating disorder is like fighting a 12-round, heavyweight battle, with your hands tied behind your back - it is NOT a fair fight. Too often the talk around eating disorders (ED’s) is focused on teenage girls. Eating disorders are an equal opportunity illness. ED’s affect people of all ages, races, genders and backgrounds. ED’s at their core, affect people - they affect human beings.’ Gain some insight & Hear how they effected the amazing speakers at DisguisED, Feb 24 in Melbourne. Funds raised for the Centre for Eating & Dieting Disorders.
