'The old cathedrals are good, but the great blue dome that hangs over everything is better.' Thomas Carlyle.
Aren't we being spoiled by this gorgeous Autumn weather! Summer is reluctant to leave & surrender to her successor. The glorious blue firmament, frames the landscape so beautifully, the sun radiates joyously & it's wonderful to be outside and soak it up!
Motored to Wells today, roof down, a gentle breeze tickling my tresses. If it wasn't for the slight rust of the trees & the vibrant ruby Virginia Creepers climbing houses and lazing on walls, I would doubt the month & think it was the beginning of August rather than the end of September!
A mooch around the market, a mini picnic by the moat sharing sandwiches with the swans, then a peaceful wander around the Cathedral. I haven't been inside for years & found myself just in time to listen to the choir practice. I couldn't see them, but their ethereal voices floated up to the vaulted ceiling and filled the space & my heart, with delight! I was so inspired, I lit a votive candle, in gratitude for the music! A restorative, peaceful, beautiful day....
Incidently, pic 4, the clock, was installed circa 1390 & is considered to be the second oldest, original working clock in the world and the oldest with its original dials - pretty cool - eh!!
