😣I used to be much leaner. With more muscle size. And was way more miserable. * I like being lean and feeling confident about myself. Why? Because I remember all too well what it was like when I had no confidence and felt like I was skinny fat and pretty much invisible. Not to mention how much I hated how my clothes fit. * But, I hated😡 the sort of lifestyle I lived where I was focusing on eating the cleanest foods all the time and prepared my meals constantly, packed cold and dried out chicken breast to eat no matter where I went and had a single cheat meal once a week. * What happened next is what's probably happened to most of you reading this. How to correctly stretch the hamstrings👇🏻 . ❌ Do not reach for your toes while keeping the knees locked. All this does is stretch the sciatic nerve which is a really bad idea. . ✅ How it’s done: ▪️Adopt a staggered stance and stretch one leg at a time (the front leg). ▪️Bend the front knee a little. ▪️Send the hips back and tilt the pelvis forward, anteriorly. ▪️Back should remain flat. Do not round - we only want hip motion to create the stretch, a pure hip hinge. ▪️Hold for up to 2 minutes or keep it dynamic by oscillating in and out of end range. . Something as simple as these scapular pull ups have numerous benefits. . Keeping your shoulders healthy and developing proper movement patterns in pulling motions demands the ability to forcefully depress, rotate and retract the shoulder blades (scapula). . Regular use of this isolation exercise will develop better muscle awareness of your shoulder blade position and enable you to train harder and longer with good form, despite hitting fatigue. . Other benefits: 🔹Helps master pull ups and chin ups 🔹Improves posture 🔹Decompresses the spine - from sitting at work, squatting or high impacted sports 🔹Reduces muscle stiffness - particularly around the neck 🔹Improves grip strength 🔹Great stretch for the lats . Technique tips: ✅ Hang on a bar as you’re about to perform pull ups. ✅ Start in a relaxed hang - shoulders will be up your ears. ✅ From here, imagine pulling your torso up with locked arms - you can also think about driving your shoulder blades down into your back pockets. ✅ While depressing the shoulder blades, pinch them together at the top of the ROM and squeeze for 1-2 seconds. ✅ To return to hanging, actively reach up, pushing your hands into the bar to maximally elevate the shoulder blades. . This is a great activation/mobility exercise - I like to perform 8-10 reps as part of an upper body day warm up. 2-4 sets will get the job done. If you find this too difficult, you can regress the exercise by performing it using a wide grip lat pulldown bar. . . 🎵Future - Low Life ft. Did you have a weekend of mindlessly drinking and overeating? 🍺🍕🤤 . It doesn’t matter how much willpower or discipline you have. Inevitably, there will come a time when you accidentally go over your calorie target. . Which is why how you respond after a day or two of “mindless fun” is really important! . If you punish yourself with guilt cardio, try to “recover” by consuming very little food or say “screw it” and dig yourself into a deeper hole, you’ll only be setting yourself up for more mistakes down the road and possibly creating a vicious circle. ❌ . Instead, the best possible thing you can do after one or two days of overeating is nothing at all. Just get back to your regular exercise plan, get back to your regular eating plan and forget it ever happened. ✅ .
