It was a warm evening in October 2012...I was photographing the mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley NP. The sunset itself was all but spectecular. There was no color in the sky at all. I sat on a dune my back towards the sunset, packing my photo-gear in the backback. Nobody was there I was completely alone! Except for one person in the distance who was yelling: "Whooo, Whoooo!". I couldn't see anybody so I went on... but something was different... hmmm...the sand in front of me was pink. Thats weird I thought. I turned around and then it hit me. Wow! The sky was burning! Pink, purple, orange, yellow... it was incredible!
I took some photos and had a big smile on my face.
Month later I saw an image on the internet that looks similar to mine...the sky was the same, but it was an other dune...the guy that was yelling that day must have been #davidthompsonphotography
