A few interesting things about Coba, it is said that it was one of the Largest cities from the Mayan age reaching a population of 50,000 at its peak, it is also said that it was mostly ran by women, with more female rulers!
Unlike other Mayan cites it has one of the few Mayan ruins you can still climb (Nohoch Mul) 120 steep steps will have you at the summit.
Coba also has 2 ball courts used for playing the traditional Mayan game, which at time periods included a sacrifice.
The Mayan city has a bit of everything we have now including a sauna which was a tunnel you could walk through that would help cleanse the body, the walls had mushrooms growing on them that would numb the body and get the person high, giving the “good feeling” and “healing of the body” as you walked through.
Now a days you can rent a bike at the entrance to roll around all paths to the Ruins enjoying the ride thought the jungle which I would recommend, and if you want to know more you can also get a guide to ride with you or push you on a basket, if not walk.
