Walking away from the dreamland that is Cancun a few shades darker and a hell of a lot more relaxed. Not once during this trip did I think or worry about the long list of things that were waiting for me back home. The physical separation allowed (and forced) me to truly disconnect and clear this mind, which was SO needed. It also made me realize how difficult doing that can be when we’re home and not laying on a beach, listening to the ocean (one of the most relaxing things ever). When I’m home and “relaxing”, I often find that I’m still “on” in some way. This trip was the first time in a loooong time where my mind was actually clear (instead of overly cluttered), and I felt so at peace. As much as I enjoy traveling and that aspect of it, I also love being home, and I’m challenging myself to find ways that I can bring that calm, clear and peaceful state back to reality, so I can lean on it when things get a little crazy and be more intentional with relaxing and disconnecting. “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”✨💆🏻‍♀️

This one feels especially important. Just thinking about all of the additional unnecessary waste that is created over the holidays makes my heart hurt. Avoiding using wrapping paper is a very tangible way that we can make a difference. I know it’s tough. I have had many ups and downs during my experience in growing plants from start to finish. What I do know is I have learnt a lot about listening to my own inner voice and learning from my negative experiences! I’ve been thinking about my past a lot lately. And trying to come to terms with the different versions of myself over the years. The thing about shame is it doesn’t care what you look like. It doesn’t care how much you weigh or if you have abs. If you’re a five or a ten on the scale of whatever beauty trend someone decided was worthy this year. Shame doesn’t discriminate. I’m not ashamed to feel beautiful now, but I always felt less than worthy for just about everything in my life. I gave away my heart and body to people who didn’t deserve it or who even had no interest in appreciating them. And... Because i gave so much away for free for so long I felt... worthless. Used up. Empty. Thank God I know enough now to accept that I am worthy of good things. That I am not NOT allowed to feel the things I do because everyone thinks i shouldn’t because of how i look. I know that we all feel these things. I know that beauty... is all about how you LET others make you feel. You are everything you need to be in THIS moment. Beauty is a feeling. And I’ve spent a long time reconnecting my heart to my mind to my body. And taking ownership of the way I feel inside of it. Nobody can tell you how to feel in your own skin. But it is your job, to create the trinity of being between those three things so that you can walk through this world as the light you’re meant to be. ✨

When your pasta salad is actually more salad than pasta 🍝🙌🏼⠀ ⠀ I used my leftover @cybelesfreetoeat red lentil (grain-free) pasta to make this deliciously healthier spin on mom’s old classic — sorry mom.⠀ ⠀ Add: greens of choice (I used @sprouts organic baby kale and spinach), cut hot house cucumber, heirloom grape tomatoes, green bell pepper and a bit of pine nuts.⠀ ⠀ For the dressing: 2 tbsp organic grape seed oil, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar, 1 tbsp @bragglivefoodproducts ACV, dash garlic powder, dash onion powder, pinch cilantro, pinch sage, pinch thyme, pinch oregano. 👌🏼

Umm did I mention yet that I love brussels sprouts 😍 probably because once you get the hang of it, it's super easy to make them tasty! Like this simple recipe: I just chopped 1 lb of sprouts in half, tossed them 1/4 cup melted ghee and flipped them cut side down in a baking sheet. Then roast for 30 min at 375º and top with 1/4 cup chopped toasted walnuts and salt to taste and boom! And they're darn good for you too, packing vitamins K and A and the anti-cancer antioxidants kaempferol and glucosinolates into each tasty baby cabbage.

I’ve always struggled to stick to a morning routine or meditation practice. Probably for a few reasons... 1. It’s hard to get quiet & sit with my feelings. I grew up with disabling panic disorder so I became really good at shutting my mind down the second any uncomfortable feelings came up. 🙅🏻‍♀️ 2. I’m a perfectionist. It’s hard for me to ignore that the beds not made yet, or the floor needs to be swept & just focus on me. 🧹 3. I tend to put everything else before myself. You know how on a plane they say to put your oxygen mask on first before you help somebody else put theirs on? Yeah, I don’t do that. & because i don’t do that, I’m left depleted & gasping for air. 🗣 The past month I’ve made it a goal of mine to develop a morning routine I can stick to because I was feeling unhappy, stuck & like I was just floating through life. I wanted to get in touch with what brings me joy again & it’s amazing how much having a morning routine has helped me with this ✨ • My morning routine: 1. Before I get out of bed, I take a few minutes to really breathe & think something positive about myself. 💕 2. I get outside to move my body in some way. Lately that’s been long walks or running. 🏃🏻‍♀️ 3. I sit down & meditate for 10 minutes, guided most times. 🧘🏻‍♀️ 4. I take a few minutes to journal two intentions for the day, some of my aspirations & dreams that are at the forefront of my mind, & three things I’m grateful for. 📝 5. I make a #stfumacachoco + breakfast & try my best to enjoy it mindfully. ☕️ I do all of this before even touching my phone, looking at emails or hopping on IG. 📴 It’s insane what this simple shift has done for my mood & I notice such a difference on the days I don’t take the time to stick to my routine. Do you have set time aside for yourself? Just found two new obsessions after this morning’s breakfast 😍 It’s kind of a tradition in our house to have a big family breakfast on Saturday mornings, but I always struggle to find something to eat. Unfortunately, I’ve always had a hard time eating eggs, and that’s the go-to breakfast for my fam. I love the way they taste, but they always hurt my stomach. The most I can eat is about half of one scrambled egg. This morning, I couldn’t even manage that, but it’s all about listening to your body, right?⁣ ⁣ Luckily, I had some banging purple sweet potato hash browns (obsession 1), @applegate chicken apple sausage, and @daveskillerbread topped with @kitehillfoods cream cheese spread and @heb organics strawberry preserves (obsession 2) to satisfy my stomach this morning!

When I came back from India, I felt like I had transformed. I felt amazing but my body was like WTF Laura? I broke out in rashes that were so gnarly, I couldn’t go to Thanksgiving and I had to cancel plans. I explain the whole thing on my IGTV. One of my classmates from yoga said to me, stop looking at your body as if it’s failing you but what is it trying to tell you. Ugh, I really just wanted to get a magic pill and make it go away. I still have some rashes on my stomach btw. I started telling my friends about my rash and soon realized everyone has had similar ones. I finally went to my friend @valerieoula who is a healer and she said my body is clearing 💩 Between the reiki and Kundalini, my body can’t catch up. The moral of the story is that when your body is doing funky things, don’t be quick to suppress the symptoms with a pill or cream but ask yourself first, what is my body trying to tell me? Am I stressed? Is it my diet? Is there negative energy around me? The one cool thing to come out of all of this is that I’ve been trying different holistic methods for my body and it’s been really fun experimenting. Recently I found myself wandering down the feminine care aisle of Rite Aid. I often end up in this section because of my curiosity about what’s new in the world of Always and Kotex. Apparently, I just can’t help myself. 🙂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What struck me this time around was the sheer number of feminine care wipes on the shelf – I counted nine of them! I remember the days when Summer’s Eve (so 90’s!) was the only brand on the market, but now Playtex, Always, Vagisil and even the drugstore brands have gotten in on the “my vagina should smell like flowers” game. 🤷‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Obviously I’m not only talking about wipes here – douches (awful by the way), feminine washes, feminine deodorants like sprays and powders, and anti-itch creams are all contenders for the worst thing you could ever do to your vagina. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ladies, you should NOT be using these feminine care products. Feminine wipes are full of horrible ingredients. can’t go a week without a waffle 🕺🏻 this one was banana cacao chip waffles made with @vitalproteins collagen peptides and @bobsredmill GF flour. topped with @lovvelavva pineapple yogurt (a favvvv), warmed frozen strawberries, coconut chips, hemp seeds, cinnamon, @seedandmill tahini. full recipe for waffles: 1 c @bobsredmill GF flour 1 tsp baking powder pinch salt 1 tsp cinnamon 1 chopped banana 2 TB cup coconut oil 2 TB maple syrup (optional!) 1 cup almond milk 1 tsp lemon juice 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 cup cacao nibs 2 scoops @vitalproteins collagen peptides mix milk with lemon juice, set aside. mix all dry ingredients together and set aside. combine milk with oil, vanilla, and maple syrup. add wet to dry, fold in banana and cacao nibs and cook in a pre-sprayed or greased waffle iron on the highest setting.

Have you guys ever had a chocolate orange? You know.. around the holidays they show up everywhere & it’s literally an orange molded from chocolate? Sounds weird. But it is the most amazing combination of chocolate & citrusy-sweet orange. They’re ADDICTING. If you haven’t tried one I HIGHLY recommend. On that note... this has to be my favorite slice I’ve ever made. I’m usually a chocolate peanut butter/Nutella kind of gal.. but this combination was TOO GOOD. A brownie crust, chocolate cheesecake layer, an orange cheesecake layer, topped with a citrus chocolate topping. This one will definitely impress at your holiday gatherings! • • Crust: 2/3 cup walnuts 1/3 cup @bobsredmill coconut flakes 2 tbsp @beekeepers_naturals cacao honey (or maple syrup for vegan) 3 tbsp @navitasorganics cacao Water as needed Blend all ingredients in food processor until a sticky dough forms. Add water as needed. Press into bottom of pan ••• Chocolate layer 1 1/2 cups soaked cashews 1/2 cup cacao 1/3 cup cacao honey or maple syrup (I used a mixture of vanilla @sweetleafstevia drops & the honey) 1/3 cup melted coconut oil 1 1/2 tsp vanilla Blend all ingredients in blender or processor. Spread over brownie base. Set in freezer. ••• Orange layer: 1 1/2 cups soaked cashews 1/3 cup coconut oil melted with 2 tbsp coconut butter (I used @performancenutbutter butter & it worked perf) 1/4 cup maple syrup 1 tsp vanilla Zest & juice of 2 medium oranges Blend all together until smooth. Spread over chocolate layer and place freezer to set. ••• Chocolate topping: 1 melted @eatingevolved chocolate bar 2 tbsp orange juice & 1 tbsp orange Zest Melt chocolate & add in juice and zest. Pour over orange layer. Set in freezer until firm. Happy Saturday everyone! So I made an absolutely amazing frittata for breakfast today & ended up eating it all before I could even photograph it. #hangry . So I’ll whip another up & share ASAP. It’s full of anti-inflammatory ingredients & so good for this time of the year with everyone getting sick. In the meantime, I’ll share this INSANE bowl I made yesterday. I always try and get creative in the kitchen To keep eating healthy fun & interesting. This tofu bowl was just that, If I may say so myself! • • • 🌿I’ve got a bed of arugula & spinach + cheesey chipotle buffalo crusted air-fried tofu nuggets + avo + beet hummus + grilled asparagus + cilantro + red cabbage + bell pepper. • •For the crusted tofu: 1 block @nasoya tofu @beanitoschips honey chipotle bbq chips @intaktsnacks blue cheese crisps @franksredhot redhot buffalo hot sauce Cut tofu into cubes & toss in buffalo sauce. Crush up the chips & cheese crisps together until a crumbly/almost powdered form. Roll the buffalo tofu nuggets in the mixture and air fry or bake until crispy! Sooooo addicting!
