Day 15/365: Hike/scramble with dad in the backcountry of San Diego. The rain held off and the cloudy skies and wet trails made it the ideal weather for this desert landscape!
I think a lot about the fact that I am so fortunate to have parents that have always stayed active. I couldn’t be more grateful that quality time with my dad includes hiking, or really any activity outside. It’s a big part of why exercise is so important to me.
I hear on a daily basis that, “I’m too old” (from 40-60 yr olds) to hike, run, ski, lift something or walk a certain distance. It kills me every time I hear this because except for certain circumstances, I don’t believe this is true. One only feels “old” when they haven’t taken care of their body and mind up to that point.
My parents are the perfect example of why this mind set is so flawed. My dad will be 60 this year and he gets his body moving every day. He has become passionate about hiking in the last few years and is accomplishing hikes like the Cactus to Clouds (def look it up) in a day. He also looks like he’s 40. That could be genetics, but it helps that he’s also taken care of himself, (and wears sunscreen!) 😉
You are only “too old” when you start believing that and making it an excuse for everything.
It’s never too late to change habits - do it now or you might end up living life like you are already dead. The world is too big and exciting for that.
Get out and play! You’ll love it.
