I decided to go fishing after church today until I realized how hot it was so I changed direction and just went to Fishin Pig instead.
Now I'm a SEMO boy to the bone and there are 2 things I take very seriously. 1: Fried Fish & 2: Sweet Tea. If your gonna try and serve catfish it better seasoned and breaded properly, tender and flaky, and not taste like the mud it was drug out of. My Sweet Tea should be brewed dark, served cold and have enough sugar to make a dentist wince.
Being this particular I don't often order catfish because most just don't do it right. Today I decided to take a chance and see how theirs were. I've dined at The Fishin Pig several times but this is the first time having their catfish and I must say I was pleasently suprised. The breading was light and very well seasoned with beautiful white flaky meat inside. They make sure you don't leave hungry by serving up 3 sides with their meals. I chose the white beans which never fail, the green bean and a baked potatoe both of which were unremarkable but good along with some excellent hush puppies and the requisite pickle & onion.
We also had an appetizer of their cajun Pork Rinds. Let me tell you these are amazing. They are freshly made and very crunchy with enough cajun seasoning to break you out in a sweat. This required me to abuse the free refills of their sweet tea, which definitely met all of my criteria.
If you haven't been here yet then I recommend checking them out. Both the Fish and the Pig are worth trying along with their sweet tea. Their only open on the weekends but their worth the wait.
